    have a dart block with mag on front of eng and oil pump drive at back of engine[wet sump system]when did first start-up the oil pressure was good but then lost it and shut off as soon as noticed it..took oil pump drive out and machined collar off a little[machine shop that assy eng did first start-up with me there]he did the machine work on it..didn't measure just did what he felt needed..since that time i've done a couple start-ups myself and had 80psi idle..changed pan//noticed pressure jump around from 80psi down to 30psi..found only had 7 qts oil in new pan//was cold outside when started/my fixes is installing pan heater//checking bearings making sure no damage//crank titan oil pump pressure up 5 turns[titan said 3 to 5psi increase for 1 turn]going with 14qts oil[jeff johnson 2 piece pan w/4" kickout]

    since i'm down doing all this thinking good ideal to check to make sure oil pump drive is into block at correct height..was reading if not oil could leak pass and cause oil pressure citation as i have;;how do i check to see if drive is down to far or not down enough;;;i really feel this should be checked since it was a problum on first start-up;;

    Since no one has tried to answer this question I'll put in my 2 cents. I would forget about using a drive stub that you have to machine to get the correct depth. Get yourself a good one with a slip collar. (MSD) All I do is put the slip collar up way too far, slid the shaft in like you would a distributor, then slide the collar down and lock it. Then put your hold down on and thats it. Should be an easy deal. The pump drive shaft will only allow the drive plug to go down so far (like a distributor). Just make sure your not ending up with the drive plug being forced down by the hold down collar. Alot of guys will set the height without the gasket in place and then put the gasket in when putting the drive plug in for good, that will bring it back up just enough to give good clearance.
