just pulled some rods out after some good thrashing, and without throwing the company under the bus, just wondering if anybody has seen this before. in the side of the beam, where a lightening trough has been ground in the beam vertically, right in either the top or bottom of the trough where the ball end makes a end to the depth cut, there were very small, but fealable cracks in the ends. not all the rods had this, but 5 out of 8 did. they all had quite a few runs and the bearings are ok. anybody seen this before. i would like to send these out for a zygo or xray to see if these go deep. any takers?

I have seen this after we actually kicked the rods out, it seems that some companies make their rods out of plate, and you can actually see the layers of laminations. We dont use those rods any more

I have seen this when Brooks was still in business
I sent a few back to Jerry and he replaced them before we lost them
Was it in a forged rod or a billet?

I have seen this a few times in the GRP rods. I use Venolia now and don't have any problems. I like the Venolia bolts tool. I haven't used MGP, but have heard good things about them.

    my crack

these are the new style forged venolia made to the b2 style. they had at least 60 runs in a 6 second altered. not a lot of revs. below 8500.
