I am wondering what size mag would work good for the motor combination we are running. We are running a 468 KB Olds with AJ heads on methenol, 8-71 blower at about 35 punds of boost, we are limited to a 110 enderle fuel pump so we dont run any bypass, we have been running a single super mag 4. I guess i am wondering if the super mag 4 is big enough or if we should be upgrading to something else. Thanks

Should be ok, but get it re-charged every year. Also, an MSD 44 will be much more reliable, and will not require as much timing. Don't bother with the 12 or the 20 though.

I was hoping you could elaborate on the recharging and the reliability.

We have put hundreds of runs on SM IVs with no troubles. They don't go dead since they have rare earth magnets, although you should still have the points and condensor changed and the brgs checked, cyl to cyl timing, etc. checked every so often.

I had a conversation with Spud a while ago about which Super Mags need to be charged. He said that some of the older SMIV's had old magnets that needed charging but they were rare and most SMIV's use the rare earth magnets. The SMIII's have to be charged.
