blown alcohol engine theory

    We ran a big chief chevy with a good roots blower and made around 2400hp at 9000rpm and 46 psi. We knew it was getting to the limits of the combo so we picked up a D rotor psi screw. The plan was to run about the same boost{92%od} and pickup some power without twisting it harder.The limit of the engine is the valvetrain,as it will destruct at high rpm or cylinder pressure.Especially the exhaust side.
    We're considering a new cam to help these issues so we had the heads flowed and they are down about 50 cfm on the intake. 466. A good port can go 525.
    The question is...should we work the heads over when we have cylinder pressure and rpm roadblocks anyway?Does a good flowing head make better power with less cylinder pressure? We know the D rotor can force the air through but we're to the point that we need to finesse it or both heads will be doorstops.

    Do you have exhaust valve problems now? If so I would like to hear about it. For what it is worth, if your head flows better you can get away with a smaller cam, even though no one ever goes that route.

    I would spend the money on making the valvetrain more reliable, wether thats springs, pushrods, rockers, etc or maybe it means doing some welding on the heads to thicken them? Maybe spintron is how to find the problem. If theres more money available after that I'd do the head flow thing also.

    IMO, to make more power you are essentially trying to make more power available at the flywheel, so you can accomplish that by increasing the efficiency (less windage loss, less HP loss to turn blower, etc) or by increasing cylinder PSI. So I would say if your heads become better flowing your cylinder PSI will go up and so will HP.

    my current setup is reliable it's just not fast enough and i'm trying to make gains without getting back into big chief valvetrain hell. I've performed every trick I know to get it as good as it is.DMPE has been helping and the first step was to evaluate the heads and camshaft.
    The heads are weak but I don't want to throw money at portwork if it's going to make better hp/cylinder pressure and kill itself.
    The psi will be more efficient at the same cylinder pressure. if that's the best we can get out of the chevy we will run it that way and spend money on lighter chassis stuff.
