Looking to use a fuel flow meter in my setup, I still need to buy one to work for my Edelbrock Data recorder. I'm using an Enderle K barrel valve and have one #8 in and two #8 lines out that go to the ports and hat nozzles. My question is that I see a lot of people use a #12 flow meter. Is this better than a #8 or #10? Does it help in not restricting flow? Which is the best way to plumb this and why? Thanks.

Use a #8 flow meter it will measure up to 25 gallons of flow. Plumb from barrel valve to meter into Y fitting. One side to hat the other to ports. You can either plug off the angled port of the barrel valve or plumb your hi-speed into it. All fuel going to the motor has to go thru flow meter.

Racepak normally uses a -10 Hoffer fuel flow sensor. You can change the output fitting or the BV to a -10 then run at least a 4" straight -10 line to the sensor. The longer the better to reduce turbulence. The out of the sensor with at least 4" of -10 line to a Y fitting with a -10 in and -8 outputs.

Jim R. from Enderle rec'd the -10 when I asked him about it several yrs ago. You don't want to be way too big or way too small when choosing this, how many GPM do you think your motor will drink, than look at the flowmeters range.

You have to be careful of the "Flow Meter Range" because that is a little deceiving because when you get real high in the range it is not linear. A Hoffer Flow Controls Flow Sensor part HO5/8X5/8-1.75-16-CB-1M-MS-X which is a -10 has a "repeatability flow range" of .9 to 20 GPM but is "calibrated" only in the 1.75 to 16 GPM range. You have to keep your flow in the linear calibrated part of the flow sensor. Plus you do not want your flow meter to change the GPM that much when installed. The -10 works great for high boost Roots and PSI screw blowers. If you are not pushing the motor then you can get away with a -8 BUT if you want to sell it then it restricts the motors it will be used on.

Great info guys, really appreciate it.

Mike, do you have a source for the Hoffer meter and do you have a part number for the plug? I'm assuming it is a cannon plug but not sure.

    Thanks.

    Go up on http://www.hofferflow.com/
The young lady that helped me there was Joanne Pritchard. Have her look up Quote Number 75407 of Jan, 2007. Like I said it is the same identical flow sensor that Racepak uses and it comes with a calibration sheet to program into the data logger. It comes with the Mil-Std Ampex two pin cannon plug. If Joanne will not talk to you about my quote then email me at mike.c@mindpsring.com and I will call her. I paid $850 for the sensor.
