I am currently running a RCD toothed idler pulley and have frayed a few blower belts . I am thinking about switching too the PSI crowned pulley that PSI claims cures this problem ....
Who is running the PSI pulley and is it worth the money?

    no teeth

I wouldn't run a toothed idler pulley no matter who made it. RCD builds good stuff but with the conditions the idler sees I would think teeth would be a bad deal. We run a RCD idler pulley with no teeth and have no problems with belts.

Why are idlers with teeth even offered? there must be some reason.

Is it better in some certain situation?

A Little common sense, if the bearings seize in a tooth idler it will rip the teeth off the belt, if the bearings seize in a non tooth idler the belt will slip by it , the belt will get hotter, but you just might make it to the Finnish line under power. K.I.S.S.

    why?????

The idler is on the slack side of the belt. The belt teeth will always be ingaging the idler teeth a little off then slide on the teeth causing belt wear. Just my opinion and I can see no reason to have teeth on your idle belt anyhow.
