lol who was it that said that racing still costs the same now as in the old days everything you got . I find it funny how when looking at photos of the old days compared to today a big difference is people seem to want to take their house with them to the race track today lol .

There was an interesting post a couple of posts ago though , what happens if the NHRA ses no to this?

I don't know about how you guys may think but to me going from a d to a C blower is the same area of allowing other manufacturers to go into business . The whole idea of having a SINGLE manufacturer having the ONLY competitive product is simple no good for the racers . I would tend to believe that blower manufacturers have to compete at the same level WE compete at the race track . So we the racer would run the best product on a set of guidelines.

Also as was expressed before RE cerfitfying old whipples would go a long way to win back racers that will upgrades to new units.

    JUST MY THOUGHTS !

    Pricing

We (DMPE) will make a competitively priced Screw supercharger as those on the market currently or at the time of release. Please understand that our M5 14-71 Roots blower (for $13,500.00) is complete with a snout drive, restraint plate, injector hat spacer, and inlet and discharge billet plates.

Question for Both new screw blower companies

What can one expect from the new and improved Whipple Screw Blower regarding above and beyond performance from the original Whipple Blower or the current PSI Blower? Will the new Whipple Screw Blower give one an improved performace option or will it give a new manufacture's choice option? If the new Whipple Blower will give a new performance advantage, what will be different from the original and how does the new features fit into the NHRA specs? Is NHRA changing the specs to allow changes for a new and improved blower? Due to NHRA rules and regs, racers cannot utitilize the current blowers to their full potential as they are now. What will be different? Also, the same questions goes for the new DMPE Screw Blower.

I'm all for competition in the blower market, but the rules on the length, diameter, and helix angle of the high helix roots style blowers has in my opinion kept a fair amount of parity among supercharger builders. Unless you have a spec on diameter, length, and helix of the rotors,I think you will have a long drawn out overdrive adjustment period between blowers at a time when there is still bickering between A-Fuel and Blown Alchohol rules.

I think what some may be missing here is there is probably a bigger market in promod and boat racing for screw blowers than there is in funny car/ tad racing. (I may be off base on that) I think that's why you're seeing new(and old) players in the market. I find it hard to believe that NHRA will do anything to make alky cars faster. Just a thought

Well there are many things that were available before we got out, but NHRA didn't allow, so if they allow some new things, I feel it will be very superior. I highly doubt they will allow other SC mfg's to offer there new SC because of the freeze. If they allow one complete new, then they have to let all new ones. But if they let the revised older unit, then maybe they'll only allow 2. We have many features available and from what we've picked up over the past 15 years, its gonna be hard to build a more superior SC that what we have for everyone. NHRA had some odd rules at the time of development, and the screw could only be 13" long. The housing could only be 16" wide and had to have .25" wall thickness minimum. Because this is some odd dimensions, designs are severly limited. Outlaw style SC's are different so our Outlaw SC has some really different concepts.

At this point, we have all the intentions of recertifying the older units and offering upgrades to them.

Prices will be competitive and were doing everything we can to actually lower the prices.

    Thanks,
    Dustin

Always that chance, but we have the older design as a backup, and with all the new data being provided, the overdrive rules should be modified heavily. When we left, it was just the simple fact that they were not SFI approved so to some degree, we can just test them to SFI 34.1 specs, get our certification and produce the older A980. I know for a fact it's competitive to the "D" profile.

We own and have all the molds, cutters, etc. and are already in the process of rebuilding these.

    Thanks,
    Dustin

To some degree, there is no control on the cost but the market somewhat controls this. But what other piece can you buy for $10,000 that last 5-10 years and is still competitive. Look at Zapia, ran our SC until last year. That SC is somewhere near 10+ years old, yet he was still the first in the 5's!! Thats a pretty good investment.

Dustin, in your opinion, which is better, A980 or R980?
Would one be better than the other at different overdrives?

I had always heard that all the Old Whipple SC's were uncertifiable, at least the Rotors were? Hence nobody was running them, when did that change?

As has been explained here by Dustin , at that point they felt that goind thru the recertification process was not a good idea due to cost. But since then they have changed their minds.

    Dustin, did I miss anything?

    Matt,

The A980 was certainly better, by far. About 5-7psi, especially at the hit of throttle. The R could be made better with the large scoops (dragsters only), but were still less than the A by the end of the track. Then, the A with injector help such as scoops and what not still gained 3-5psi. When we put the first "dog cone" scoop on a dragster, it picked up 7mph and 5psi of boost at the World finals.

Only uncertifiable because we opted to not re-spin test again. SFI then took our SFI'ing ability away. To some degree, if we spun tested 1 unit tomorrow, we could recertify them. But we have to follow all the SFI test and it certainly takes some time to do it right. So, with this in mind, this is what we plan to do.

I was searching on the AJPE site last night and noticed in the supercharger section that he has listed Whipple SFI certification . So maybe he has been doing the recerts . Go to the supercharger section and look

It probably just hasn't been updated in some time. AJ use to sale quite a few SC's for us.

This 14-71 you are going to building , will it be a standard helix or a high helix?

The first is std helix and we'll be working with one team until everything has been proven. We haven't decided on the hi-helix yet.
