You will still run 20's regularly... You could always put a blower on it and run Tf. Looks like they will be needing cars this year anyway...

    nhra 2%

ALL THAT FOR ONE GUY , why not tafc as well , Nobody can beat Manzo either . hes got a couple hundreths on everybody .So lets punish the rest of the alky floppers as well. That dosent make sense does it!!! Too bad these nhra postions that vote on our rules are not an elected postion by the racers . As its gonna be hard enough in 2009 to get out & race any way.

Dave, are you sure they won't enforce the "no articial cooling" of the fuel in the rules?
300 horsepower (cooling) is a lot but 2 percent should help level the field.
I would hope that NHRA watches it close and adjusts if needed 'cause us blown guys need the injected cars and vice versa. We need to keep on this and work it out.
    My two cents,

I like the move by NHRA, need to level the playing field some more.

    Still might not be enough.

Level what playing field? Reichert is still the king! Manzo is next to God! And Whitely has more money then everybody!
What playing field are you going to level? Should we put a limit on how much everyone can spend too? Lets put a limit on how many races everyone can go to as well.
Some of us A Fuel guys haven't ran in the teens. Some of us A Fuel guys have also spent all of our time & money trying to be competitive. I got tired of getting beat by A Fuel cars so I sold it & bought one. You never heard me complain when I had a blown car!!!

I just hit the wrong key and lost the 500 word post I had written. Oh well it was probably for the best anyway. I have one quetion? Why always are the nitro guys being asked to change and spend the money to try and find the needed performance????
NHRA will have a hard time filling the TAD class at the Nationals this year already. This certainly won't help.
I hope you had your money somewhere other than GM stocks?

    parity

First off, I hear that fuel chilling won't be allowed next year. It's not going to be a rule revision, just they have changed their stance on the interpretation of the existing rule.

Secondly, Izzy and others can go back and look at my statements regarding parity over the past year or so, and I have not advocated further changes to the A/F cars, rather I have been for lifting restrictions on the blown combination.

However, I think if you look at the history of these nitro hits, I think they have more to do with slowing the class down rather than hitting the A/F cars for the sake of parity. It's hard not to look at 280 mph as the barrier - the last hit came after Reichert's 284 blast in Houston '07, so it seems no small coincidence the latest hit comes in after his 5.16/280 in Pomona. Tatum, Pierce, Shields and others have been pushing 280 with regularity towards the end of the year.

I think it's particularly significant when you consider the numbers given the fact the fuelers only run 1000' and their top speeds are only 312 or so. That means there is quite a bit less gap between the numbers on the scoreboard, 312 to 280. It's no secret NHRA and PRO want to maintain that gap, not to mention, if we're still going to run divisionals, they want to keep that speed in check as well.

I'm glad you compared this situation to Manzo. Saying there should be a rule change in TAFC for Manzo is silly. As someone who has raced in both classes, I really enjoy the challenge of chasing the standard Manzo has set for the class. When I show up with a TAFC team, I know that if I'm smart enough, I can make the car within the rules run as fast as him. The only thing holding me back tuneup, driver, budget, runs down the track, etc. I don't know if anyone out there is smart enough to make a B/AD run teens. Even Manzo himself would have a hard time. It's just not there with the current rules.

You point out how Whiteley has a bigger budget than everyone else, even with his budget, high .20's was the best he could do. As impressive as those .27's he ran in Dallas were, Reichert ran low .20's and a 5.16 in very similar conditions.

I would hope the frustration of the A/F teams will be properly directed. Izzy, you're quick to slam myself and the blown guys, but we didn't make the rule change. There was no letter sent to NHRA by the blown teams, but there was a collective letter sent by the A/F teams. This is a decision made by NHRA. I hope we're all mature enough not to hold antimosity towards the other 'type' of racer.

I can understand the frustration. The blown guys have been frustrated because they feel like they have to catch a lucky break or go to races where certain A/F teams aren't running to win. The A/F racer just wants to be left alone to work on his/her combo.

I don't know if I would have went as far as 94%, but there is a pretty good gap between what's been run with the A/F this year and the blown cars.

As I've said all along, even though many of you don't believe me, if the blown cars develop a clear, unfair advantage, I'll advocate change to reinstate parity. I'm for TAD, not B/AD or A/FD, and what to see what's best for the class as a whole.

    Nice.

300 horsepower? And you know this how? 2%-LEVEL the playing field? And you know this how? Pretty ignorant comments.
Historically alcohol dragsters have been .3 ahead of the funny cars. They haven't kept the pace but.............the alky funnys continue to improve. Remember there hasn't been an alky dragster "improvement" in what.........5, 6 or 7 years? So, I guess the best thing to do is penalize the AFD's. Again.

Simple question, irregardless of percentage, are the a Fuel cars running the same fuel volume they ran back in 05? or even 06? what about the blown alky cars? Any significant change in fuel volume in the last 8 years?

    Another simple question??

Are the blown cars running the same amount of boost they were 8 years ago???? Is the track preperation better today than 8 years ago???
Was the msd timing control legal 8 years ago???
Are the a-fuel cars running the same percentage as 8 years ago???
Are the weight breaks the same as 8 years ago. (At th min. wt. of 2050 and 466 cid the wt. per pound is 4.399 lbs per cid. vs the 2125 lbs for a-fuel at 425 cid.) Most a-fuel cars have 421 cid engines which means to make the min weight they should have 425 cid. Even at the min. wt. these cars are starting out 20 lbs overweight for the 421 cid.
For the past 5 or six years every year it is the a-fuel guys that are asked to make a change.
What happened when they gave the blown cars more od. That was suppose to be worth at least a tenth. Relate that to six to eight years ago and the blown cars should be running in the teens.
Come on over Manzo and show us how to make a blower dragster run!!!

that was the C blower? right?
Same in both lanes for both cars? no? this is relevant how?
didn't seem to effect the top fuel cars much. Why is that?
Ever try to get a blown car near weight at a CI that doesn't outrun head flow capacity? Ever wonder why a blown 451 runs just as quick as a 470? how much more weight have the belly pans, diapers, helmet shields etc. added to the weight?
OK I honestly didn't know that they took a hit in season 07 and 08. Please refresh my memory.
and what was the difference in boost on the chamber side of the intake valve? Ever wonder why allot of guys tried and new OD and then took the pulleys back off again?
funny car aerodynamics have come along way in eight years.
I thought I asked a simple question. re: fuel volume, Is it a difficult question to answer or is the emperor wearing no clothes? If you are running more fuel volume than past seasons. Where is that fuel going? Out the pipes? Or are you burning it?

Great post, Will. I agree, it now has more to do with the MPH that pops up on the scoreboard.

That being said, the rules have to be based on the performance potential of a combo. It is obvious that Reichert can do just about anything he wants to do, and the other AFDs (some with more budget) have the same capability. Unfortunately, the BADs do not.

By the way, I have a sneaky feeling that Manzo will be even more dominant when he shows up at Pomona in Feb.

    Dan,

I guess if more rocket scientists stated their opinion NHRA wouldn't have made the change...but, they did...
    Did they listen to us...
Hands on experience... would you say, some...

    Merry Christmas,

Oh tjenna......You're so smart your opinion is valued.

I guess more A-fuel teams should have gotten on the squeaky wheel money train. As we have seen for years, the squeaky wheel got the grease. Maybe the A-fuel teams need to enlist in their own "town crier." The BAD's, as we know, have a few.
