What do you think about this camshaft change.

So, as you may know... I have been trouble shooting why my car is running slower than I think it should and have done a little research... I have talked to some camshaft guru's and here is what they have come up with.

My motor of course is a 526" Rodeck, Dart 360's Flowed to 410, 14-71 at 38 pounds of boost, Methanol... etc.

The car will end up weighing around 2750 with driver with my new block.

It had run 7.60 @ 183 weighing 2900 pounds using my 2 speed glide.

So I send out my camshaft info which is as follows.
Lober Seperation - 116
Exhaust Closes @ 22 Degrees
Exhaust Opens @ 82 Degrees

Intake Opens @ 35 Degrees
Intake Closes @ 79 Degrees

Center Line of Intake Lobe - 112 Degrees

4 Degrees Advanced

Lift at Intake Valve - .810
Lift at Exhaust Valve - .770
Rocker Arm Ratio - 1.7
Valve Adjustment - .026

Duration @ .050
Intake - 294
Exhaust - 284

Advertised Duration
Intake - 330
Exhaust - 314





They replied back saying that the camshaft in the car now is defineately wrong and appears to be like old school turbo stuff.

They recomended the following.

282° intake, 296° exhaust, .833" / .833" lift, 116° lobe sep.

They said with the exhaust being 10degrees out on my current cam, it is causing a lot of power loss.

What do you guys think? Any ideas on improvement?

I would like to go in the bottom 7's

My new block is gonna be dropping 150 pounds or so off the car which will also help.

Yeah, your post got me thinking about it, and after some talk with differnt cam companies, you were right.

I hope I can pick up enough to drop down to the bottom 7's

 

Camshafts are an often overlooked area. I think changing your cam is a great idea. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

 

They are correct about that cam being for a turbo setup, a different cam should wake your car up.
