out here in washington its 3.99+ I saw 4.08 in coulee city. theres about .70cents a gallon for taxes. just a side note, many goverment and union pension plans invest mass amounts of money in exxon-mobile shares to pay for retirement monies. kinda like socialized medicine, you get to help with somebodys retirement a gallon at a time.;)

    Spokane Wages

In the mid 60's I had 4 ways out of spokane, # 1 unemployment # 2 welfare # 3 military so. east asia # 4 move away to find work. Spokane has been a conservitive area since 1890's and has drove out everyone they could not control. ( Hillyard rail road yard to Rathrum Id. etc.) Ford moter co. wanted to build a plant in the area, but the Reich of Spokane put the price of the land so high that Bill Gates would have had to get a loan to buy any property. Spokane has the highest home foreclosers and the second lowest wages in the nation! You got what and who you voted for and we might forget who you were but we will never forget what you did. Remember Jim West.

Dave, the government has nothing to do with the prices of fuel as you can see they have the same high prices in the UK with a different government. The price of fuel is controlled by the "futures market" and is based opn supply and demand. Now if you rememember Nancy Pelosi was all over the Republicans and Bush blaming them for high prices until the Democrates became in power and she moved up. So now why hasn't Nancy Pelosi reduced the cost of fuel? Maybe she found out that she couldn't. Believe me you do not want government regulation and control of fuel. The only thing the government can do is to release some federal reserve oil to force the futures market to bet the other way.:D

    Fuel Cost

Thanks Mr. Canter, You hit a grand slam on fuel supplies and that's how it works. Wa. st. has a sales tax revenue there is a state and federal fuel tax added at the pump, (you don't pay unless you buy) and no state income tax like oregon. The state fuel tax is for hiway, all roads etc. The company I work for added more euipment and about 100 people because of the state fuel tax.
The company couldn't be happier, their right of center and non union and couldn't wait for the voters to pass the fuel tax increase.

our high prices (about double in $ terms) are due to government taxes, of every £1 we spend on fuel 75% of that goes to the government....

I can tell you one thing if the result of the higher prices for diesel fuel is to reduce consumption it is definately going to work on me!!! I think I will have to take out a loan or get my 600 dolar rebate from the goverment t cover my last trip to Bell Rose. What is so rediculous is that the purse in TAD has been the same for the last 10 years while the cost to compete has increased about 300 %. This class will quckly become for the super rich or that has a big sponsor. Sad but true. It cost me about 750 dollars to fill the tanks on my toter today. There is absolutely no excuse for diesel prices to be higher than gasoline. Cost is about 1/2 as much to refine.

    fuel

Div 2 first round pays $600.the average tow fuel bill is about $550, I don't think break even is an issue anymore. only one guy per event covers his/her bill for the weekend..if they're careful and lucky.

    Nitrohawk says it all !!!

Good job Nitro, In 1974 fuel was 25 cents a gal. Big rigs averaged loaded about 3 m.p.h. A 400 cummins, a 1693 350 hp cat, a 8v and 12v -71 were the big motors of that time. the gross wt. was 73,280. Now new trucks loaded @ 80,000 plus averge about 7 m.p.h. @ near 4 bucks not much improvement on fuel mpg. The cost of fuel production is just what you said.
If you like sex, become a truck driver or drag racer, you get screwed every day! I'm a commercial driver almost 40 years and been drag racing since 1965.

    All this surprises me.

In New Zealand, 91 octane fuel is $NZ1.75 per litre, which equals aprox $US5.28 per US gallon (if my math is correct). But diesel is about $NZ1.10 per litre, aprox equal to $US3.32 (someone from here will probably correct me).

So why is the price of diesel cheaper than petrol here, when it is more expensive there? We pay tax on diesel separately, not when we purchase it. But including tax, it would still work out cheaper.

    Interesting...

We use new and improved low sulfur diesel now which has been an excuse to raise the price.

The Government can mandate a maximum profit per quarter for the oil giants. They can also enforce price gouging laws. Supply and Demand pricing is just that, nothing makes it cost any more other than greed.

Our trucks still average around 5 to 5.5 mpg, 475 Cats and 500 Cummins. BTW fuel in the Dallas area is around 3.70 per gallon.

The breakdown of a cost of a gallon of fuel:
54.8% can be attributed to the cost of crude oil
21.7% is the cost of refining
4.5% goes for marketing, distribution and storage
    18.9% is for taxes

As far as oil company profits. If an oil company makes 2% off of each gallon and a gallon only costs $1.00 then nobody complained. When the cost of a gallon tripled then so did the profits but the percentage didn't change but everybody complained that the profit is now too great. Without that profit oil companies cannot build new refineries or search for new oil deposits and the cost of doing all that has also increased.

The US only gets 18% of its crude from the Middle East but we are tied directly to OPEC control and that is the price gouging. The US needs to be allowed to drill the newly found oil reserves in the Gulf of Mexico that we have not been allowed to but the Chinese are drilling for it out of Cuba. We need to be able to drill for more oil in Alaska but have not be allowed to. The problem is .5% of the population screams about the environment and we are not allowed to drill for oil and 100% of the US suffers.

Also, again explain why Congress is not releasing Federal Reserve oil to lower the prices. I will tell you why.....some groups of people want the economy to collapse so they can blame it onto onto the current regime during the election year so to do all this we will all suffer.
