    i think the guy overspent
i heard he won a settlement, and its most likely dwindling
his health is no reason to leave all these racers hanging,
if he's comming back in 09 whats the difference if the
money is spent now or then
talk about a way to ruin your credibility with people
i bet he'd pull out of ihra, nhra event sponsorships if they didint have contracts
i believe his health is bad and i wish him well but, this whole thing
    seems fishey
if selling racing fuel is your business
why would you do this to racers ?

I think people should be grateful.
He did give away millions of dollars to racers over the past few years.

Wow, that is quite a list. Of course nothing is for sure yet other than Mike Ashley's announcement. Sponsorship is a weird deal- I am sure anybody who has been a racer has had a sponsor drop out on them. How about those poor bastards who have made committments for parts and other expenses that won't be paid for now? If I was a business guy who found himself in dire financial straits I would probably cut back the teams that I support rather than drop everybody. But then again I am not a business man, I am a racer and I have second mortgaged my house and took loans on my retirement to pay for what I love. Makes me wonder- Did Evan Knoll really love racing? Hey konrdoz,

I have a question for you. I understand we are all drag racers and are hearing is probably shot, but this is a message board, why are you shouting? ie. the bold print on your posts?

Im sure we'd all see and read your repsonses without the bold print. :)

    To our NOW lost friends

I really feel sorry for all the racers that lost their sponsorship and some who were just getting started in the ranks (some BIG names too). I hope Evan does well with his health, but I see the unemployment line getting longer and this sure is not good for our sport.
I think if you are going to pull the plug, pull it at the end of the season, not 28 days before it starts.
There have been a lot of big name GOOD drivers that have lost their sponsorship and rides over recent years, not to be heard from again. (I miss that part of OUR family) I for one think this whole thing stinks. Can you say Sunoco/VP!!!! I remember that beautiful yellow/blue and red (Sunoco) P/S motorcycle of Dave Schultz. God, may he rest in peace.

First of all, I would like to say to those of you who are crucifying Evan because of a business/health decision he made…you are confused. Some of you are questioning whether or not he really loves drag racing? Have you ever met the man? Evan is a wonderful person with a heart of gold. If you are not directly affected by this maybe you should just back off. All the guys at Torco are like family and I’m sure none of this was meant to happen. Let Evan take a year off and get healthy, so we can see him out at the racetrack in 2009. We are grateful for the time and money he spent with us over the past 3 seasons and wish him all the best in his recovery. Please just think before you post…this is a fellow human being and our friend.

    Hey Kon,

No sweat, I was just curious is all. No harm done.

    Shanna,

Very well said. I dont have an opinion on the situation one way or another as I am not directly invovled nor have I ever met Evan. I hope the time off does wonders for him.

    GET WELL EVAN KNOLL!!

With that said, I just have to put my two cents in.
Mr. Knoll has not been well for a few years now as it has been said. How come it took to Jan. 8th to let everyone (racers) know that he was pulling out for the year of 08. Why did this not happen at the end of the 07 season?
I guess everyone that had planed to race this year along with crews and commitments and such just didn't matter.
I know that he has done a TON for the drag race community, but to stop short like this is totally beyond my imagination.
I sincerely hope Evan gets well, but I think TRUST and LOYALTY just went out the window.
I hope we hear more from his spokesperson on this matter.

    Closed Head Injuries

For those of you who do not know what a closed head injury is (This is what Evan suffered in his accident). It is an injury to the brain, where the skull surrounding the brain is not damaged.
Unfortuately this is the worse injury to have, because the brain swells within the skull and has nowhere to expand to and thus when the pressure increases the brain is damaged, sometimes permanently.
Depending on the location of the brain injury, certain functions are affected. From the press release from Torco stating the following:
    Q - How serious is Evan's condition?
LP - "He had a closed head injury and any time you have one of those it is considered serious because you are fine today and the next could be another story. We've already found out how serious head injuries can be in other situations. We are doing everything we can to ensure that Evan heals properly. This is serious and it's not good. Sometimes he has good days and then there are others that he's not the Evan Knoll we all have come to know and love. Sometimes, I don't even know that it's Evan Knoll talking. He doesn't look the same at times. He's not the same. Anyone who knows him prior to the accident can tell that he's a different man."
It sounds as though he had a frontal lobe injury and these are difficult at best as a person's personality changes sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. The changes can remain stable or the personality may change over time. The personality may become irrational, totally incoherant or violent, its very dependent on the individual.
Either way, I think what Torco is saying is true about Evan and that he wants to remain in racing, but needs time to see if he can stabilize his moods and personality.
I think what Torco is doing is taking stock of what he has committed to and reorganizing in the event that he is unable to continue as the leader Torco has been known for. They may also be trying to put the right person in place with drag racing knowlege for 2009 instead of putting someone in charge who has no idea what they are doing and has to make decisions they are not qualified to make.
Better to make a smart decision next year than a bad one this year and lose everything!

    a sponsor

i have never had a sponsor other than my own bussiness are a lot of money to go racing BUT i think the ones who had the evan knoll sponsor for there cars SHOULD be thankful for the sponsorship they had and for as long as they had it and be thankful for it and remember this when one door shuts another one will open givin time if the man is ill wish him a speedy recovery and if you lucky he will come back with a stronger sponsorship than you had i would be glad to even have sponsor so i could race with the best out there instead of having to match race my car all over with hardly no chance to get to a national event are divisonal event without breaking the bank to get there one time and have to bust my ass the rest of the year to pay for it so JUST BE THANKFUL for what you alredy had

PS I do it because i love it not for the money tho it would help

    Shanna, Mick, THANK YOU!!!!

The negative posts are just making me more and more angry.

The ones so quick to judge, what if this was their Dad? Their Uncle? Their Best Friend? Would they be so quick to chastise that person as some are doing to Evan and Torco? I think Not!!!!

See you guys soon, if there is anything we can do, please call.

Love ya both, Say hi to Larry and Bev,

    Nancy
