formed seats

Hi Everyone, I spoke to Bob Devour at length this morning and there is a rules committee meeting on Monday.

Hopefully we're going to have several rule clarification on Tuesday as he has committed to calling me back then.

Anyway, hope this helps if we can wait until then for further clarification.

Ok folks, we just got back from Victor's house. I have to tell you that pouring the seat was very easy. We took several precautions. We taped, used pastic drop cloths to cover Frank and the car, but very little foam escaped from the bag. ISP was very helpful; we called them before the pour to confirm we understood all the directions.After the foam set up we had all we could do to get Frank out of the car because the fit was that snug.
The only complaint we had was that the double sided tape provided in the kit seemed impossible to remove, but after soaking it with brake clean for several minutes it began to release. So DO NOT do as I did and go overboard on the tape.
If anyone wants any advice please contact myself or Frank and we would be happy to help.
My son took pictures with my cell phone to post on this board they didn't come out good enough, Frank also took some and hopefully his are good enough to post and then we will put them up here for all to see.

I have the ISP kit for my seat also. We haven't poured it yet but will soon. What I am wondering is how fast will NHRA outlaw the seats after the first fuel funnycar catches the foam on fire. They don't allow magnesium for the tin work for a funny car because of the flammability. So why are we adding flammable foam? I have this vision of a nitro guy bailing out of a flaming car with what looks like a burning marshmallow stuck to his butt. Not a good thing. Dave Germain

 

Dave, The ISP kit is a non flamable material. I tested it at my shop. I will test the Bald Spot bead kit tomorrow. The Bald Spot kit is what is in many cars including Clint's and Brian Hough's. DT.

 

Fire resistant foam

Dave, ISP did post on this thread (if my memory is correct) that their seat is the only one that is SFI approved for fire resistance. But it got pulled, I'm guessing because he is not an advertiser on the site. Will, am I wrong?
When I read that, there was no doubt in my mind which seat will be under my butt. And don't get me wrong, I really like Jeff Garvin. We will pour my ISP seat this week.

D.T. was at our shop assisting us with the Bald Spot seat this morning. The finished product is a very nice peice. It is a time consuming process, as all of them are, but with a little patience the seat is a very good alternitive to the other seats. Dennis worked with us on do's and donts, and I'm sure he'll be happy to answer any questions about it.

 

Thanks to all the folks who have had some input into this situation. I am sure once we all get our seats done we will look back on this and wonder why we made such a big deal about it. Maybe it is just the fear of the unknown? I can't wait until we actually have some racing to do so we can put all these safety things behind us. Dave Germain

Formed Seat

Hey Guys and Nancy:
Well it's official, we have a new car (sorry Clint, have to sell old green - Ken can't see out of it anymore with that crazy hat) - anyway, we did the ISP do-it-yourself kit friday nite and he did some shaping on saturday, and i am gonna upholster it sometime this week, ours turned out awesome - but it is some work - he agrees with you on how it feels-like having a form fitted balloon, can't wait to drive it also-but then he's (we all are) really excited about the new car - monte carlo/hadman - Geoff and Walley took it to Edmonton this morning, we don't think we are gonna make Pomona, need a couple things but i will wait to see for a week or so to withdraw just in case things go smooth, otherwise - we will be in Vegas!!! Hope everyone had good holidays,
