Hello all and Merry Christmas from lovely cold Klamath Falls, OR. (it was 6 degrees this morning when I came to work i guess winter is here)
Just wanted to post my experience with Jeff Garvin and the seat insert he made for my car. WOW this is awesome! I thought that being a large driver I would probably just end up with a "lumbar support" for an insert, boy was I wrong. There are a lot of voids when you are sitting in the car that you don't even realize. The seat is so comfortable I could have sat in the car another hour, totally "hugs" your body and makes you feel part of the car. Forget about the fact that this is a requirement and get it just because it is better.
When he buckled me in and sinched the belts I was like "come on pull them down" and I was welded in the car but didn't feel like it. It is great and comes out looking totally professional and very nice.
The other thing I can share is it is quite a process to properly make one of these seats. There are special tools required and a technique that needs to be perfected before you could make a nice one yourself. Jeff has done more than 30 of them and spent over 10 hours working on mine. I can only imagine how long it takes if you don't know what you are doing.
Bottom line is this, Jeff did a GREAT JOB, was nice to be around and my seat is very nice. I have absolutley no regrets in deciding to pay him to do it versus trying to do it myself (and i am a do it yourself kinda guy). You could very easily end up buying two kits to do it yourself if you don't have someone who has done it before and knows the tricks, and /or end up with seat that isn't very nice or comfortable.

I can't wait to drive the car with the insert, i think it will be a lot better.
    Happy New Year to everyone!
    :)

    Voids?

Clint; I think I'm on to you now. You've always just worn "baggy" clothes to trick us into thinking you really didn't have a "figure"! "Voids" was the give away!:D

    Happy Holidays, Bob
P.S. 43* here this morn. bbbrrrrrr!

Clint, how much (if you don't mind my asking) was it to get the seat made for you? I've been thinking about a more comfortable seat since I went to ISP at PRI and almost fell asleep sitting in a demo... There was one man at PRI who said you could buy the kit and do it at home for I think around six hundred... So depending on Garvin's price I may just do that...

You know Gene, in some instances you're absolutely right. :D

It's no secret that there are several options out there for safety that are all excepted, approved, more cost effective and more bling appealing, it really just depends on what works for us individually.

I'm really glad to know Clint's experience because Clint's a pretty big guy and I honestly was wondering how it would work, not only for him, but for a few of my other friends too.

    Take care and Merry Christmas.

    Foam...

Hey Clint, did anyone talk about the safety of the foam. In other words is it flammable? I know it is covered with Carbon-X or Nomex but if it ever got going...well your ass is literally toast.
    Cheers, Bill

    fire safety

the foam itself will burn, I am not sure how readily but it is not fireproof. it is covered with nomex as is my aluminum seat. I think if you ever got to the point that the seat caught fire and you were still in the car you would already be pretty toasted, considering it is under the driver which is also covered in nomex not too likely in my opinion.

as for the Great Stuff / trash bag option I think it would work, especially if you are a mud buggy racer.

For details on the pricing, go to Jeff's website www.garvinmotorsports.com , get his phone number and call him. If a do it yourself seat is 600.00 Jeff's deal is a bargain. You do have to fly him in to do it so you should find a couple other people in your area, do them all at once and split the plane tix. That's what we did, got three of us together to make it a little less expensive. I have to say he is a very nice guy and takes the time to make a nicely finished product. Way better than I would have done I am sure.

I wasn't aware I needed to fly Jeff in to get the job done. I was under the impression he was coming out to the Pacific NW on his own to do several guys at once? I was waiting for a firm committed date from him but Rocky and I were getting a little nervous with all the safety things that needed to be done so we ordered a do it yourself seat. I hope it turns out a little like Jeff's, he does very good work.

The kits run $275 to $300 (give or take a littel) depending on the size small or medium. It's the same kit and material that is currently being used.

Complete seat kits from a couple of manufactures are available from us. We will also be available to come to you and do it all for you, or cover the seat that you make with the kit if you don't feel comfortable doing that. As you might guess, time is a real problem. Nancy is also a dealer of one of the kits as well. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. We will be working here all through the Holidays.

Merry Christmas to all, Dennis Taylor 714 630-7850

I just spoke with Jeff today and now after reading this it is no doubt I will be having him do my seat in my new Capsuled drag boat. It is surely worth the phone call as he provided a ton of very good information and ideas for my application.

It's not so much that it will burn as it is what it gives off when it does. Great Stuff releases an extremely toxic fume when on fire which makes it an extremely dangerous item to have on ANY car. Guys have used it to help seal up wheel tubs where shotty craftsmanship has been applied and it is definately a no, no. We have a laser at the manufacturing facility that I am employed at and one thing we don't mess around with is plastics. PVC gives off a deadly Cyanide gas when burned. I would worry about fumes more than anything but I guess you hit it on the head when you you said if it's burning and your still in there..... well, it probably won't much matter at that point!

    formed seats??

Is there anybody distrubuting these seats willing to do a group of cars on the east coast. If so who and if there are any teams out this way needing this service maybe we can organize and appointment to fly the installer out and do a few cars the same time?? Not quite sure how it would play out just interested in getting the ball rolling.
    Thanks Scott.
