The search bar above will get you lots of good info. You could cut the cam groove deeper or run external lines but you should be checking lash all the time anyways so pre lube still works best

Check lash after every pass. If you don’t want to pull valve covers during a race weekend, sell the hemi and get something else.

these motors are extremely maintenance intensive. Don’t be lazy.

Yes sir, rockers have oilers. Some push rods have them some don’t. I’ve run Trend tool steel push rods that have oiler holes and I’ve run Manton push rods that were solid, and have seen no change on how the push rods or adjusters look. You control the amount of oil that goes to them via the restrictors. There are 2 on each side of the block, .085 each is a good starting point.

We lube the push rod tips with moly grease prior to the first start of the day. No issues.

if you are going to run old parts there are no ways around pulling valve covers to inspect. Reid makes rockers for a number of applications including older 426 fuel heads. The only way you are going to be able to not pull the covers is self oiling adjusters. Intake rockers can usually be modified for this upgrade but you will need a newer style exhaust rocker to have self oiling on the exhaust.

Pull the covers. Two years ago #2 lash was tight after a qualifying pass. We set at .010 hot. Was around .006. Didn't feel right so we leaked it.... This what we found when we pulled the head.

There is an easy $2K saved by pulling the covers.

Like Chris stated, pulling the covers is the easiest way to tell if something isn’t right. For example, lost high gear last weekend at the shift and motor went to 10k, adjuster came loose and bent a push rod. Which naturally led to a lifter replacement on pure grounds of preventative maintenance. If I didn’t pull the valve covers, I’d have fixed high gear and ran it which would’ve been a much more expensive end to the weekend.

Not trying to beat this subject up, but can’t stress enough the importance of at least pulling them to inspect after every pass.

FWIW...I had a pushrod/adjuster issue with a set of Veny heads with stage V rockers. The cup or adjuster would blue/tear up in only a few runs. I replaced the adjusters with some Manton pcs with a thru hole and the problem went away.

Yes, the distance from rocker to cup was also correct to allow the oil to get to the cup/ ball interface. You don't need a lot of oil to keep it lubed and the thru hole provides enough. In addition we have been putting oil in the adjuster broach (hex) every time the VC come off.

As long as everything is OK , usually at the shed prior to an event, then once or twice during. Mind you I'm only bracket/testing and conditions will dictate. Also we are bumping up the boost and fuel so covers more than likely will be off every pass until I get a false sense of stability.
