Converter explanation

    can some explain to me converter parts ?
    What does the blade count do?
    What does the blade pitch control ?
    Why does blade count control?
    Pump is base ?
    Turbine does what?

    Turbine is what drives the car. For a given application you will be in a certain pump/turbine combo. You fine tune the combo with your stator. The angle of the stator blades, along with the amount of the blades have to do with how tight or loose your stator behaves. You can also make smaller more finite change to the stator by jockeying the stator closer or further away from the pump. General rule of thumb is looser stator, more torque multiplication. Tighter stator less multiplication. “Tight” converters seem to zip the tires off easier than a “looser” one. Also as you approach 20% slippage and less, the stators ability to multiply torque diminishes and the converter is “coupled” or attempting to “couple”.

    I guess what I’m asking is what is the main difference between a 20/35 stator and a 12/35?
