I need to build a new set of Zoomies for Blown alky Dragster.
SS or mild steel? My old headers ( and they are old) had the tie bars locking the tubes together welded to "floater tubes" Most of the headers I see are not built with the slipper or floater tubes.
Any thoughts on this...... I have prints for my flange and a source to get those made.

    Thanks!

Mine are mild, and cerakoted. They look great and work great. Stainless is heavier.

I guess it all comes down to mass and budget. Is mass reduction a real concern in your program? If it was me, I'd build out of a good grade of stainless and then never worry about them again. Way more important things to deal with.

You could get fancy and do Ti or Inconel, but why until you have exhausted other cheaper options?

Mild steel is invariably going to rust no matter how hard you try.

Double wall adds weight, but also longevity. At a minimum they need to have gusset braces.

if you go with mild steel and coat them so they won't rust, don't plan on being able to weld up the cracks as many years of use.
