Just curious. How many runs do you guys normally put on a set of lifters before you rebuild or replace? Morel lifters to be specific. Roots BAE 5 motor, never push it past 9k.

Also like to hear opinions on whether or not Jesels are worth the price compared to Morels.

    Thx.

Depending on your open spring pressure and rpm I do not see a need for Jesels in a top dragster, and I sell them. In the motors I build for top dragster guys and the rpm they turn we get 3 seasons or around 150 runs before rebuilding them, with that said I do not use morel lifters either.

Is there reason you don't run Morels? Top dragster stuff is a small chunk of what I do. Most of my schedule is 1/8th mile heads up stuff, with a much more aggressive tune up. Will probably end up pushing the motor to 9500 next year but that's the high end.

Just wondering what the average maintenance cycle on morels are, even worst case. Everything's on a maintenance schedule, just not sure what schedule to put these on.

    Thanks.

Morels lasted 50-60 runs for me then rebuild and sell them. I ran a rebuilt set and it made it 10 runs before it broke and cost me a set of rods, cam and some other torn up parts. Went to Jesel’s after that and haven’t looked back. For what the rebuild cost me I was ahead buying Jesel from the beginning . And cost me a month of racing too.

How long do the Jesel's last in comparison to the Morels? Thanks

I dont think anyone give you an exact run count. They handle more abuse they are a more consistently built piece and everyone runs them after rebuilds, you can have them rebuilt more than once.

I know a top 10 Nhra car put over 300 runs on his. Several blown up engines. And never a failure. He keeps them in his trailer for spares.

    lol, who?

Any Top 10 car is smart enough to rebuild them and wouldn't take them to "300 runs". Second of all, they'd never last to 300 runs. They have been horrible lately, past two or three years, and I know nearly everyone up top has gotten away from them. They broke 2x in my car, one set new and one set rebuilt, under 20 runs each. When they did they wiped out Jesel tool steel cam cores and created a mess. I went back to Jesel and couldn't be happier.

So the consensus seems to be I could run Morrels for 50-60 runs, rebuild them and sell them, or put the Jessels in there and go forever...lol. Anyone had any experience with CamFX lifters?

    Thanks,
    Trev

Ohhhh, let me tell you about the Cam FX lifters...

I bought 2 brand new sets of 1" and got 6 runs out of the first set before a wheel came apart on a brand new BAE block.
During autopsy, found a wheel broke on a lifter, no bluing, no scarring, just a broken wheel.

Tore up a 6 run cam, had to have crank cleaned up by Flanikin, had to trash 6 of 8 rods, killed a 6 run oil pump AND had to send the block back to Brad to get lifter bores fixed.

I wouldn't run CAMFX in my golf cart.
In fact, I have a set of 1" brand new that I wouldn't even sell to anyone because I'd hate to see the same issue.

Bought Jesel's as the base case now and had Ken overnight me a set of Morels as our spares.

Do you know if the Cam FX and Jesel's have the same pushrod height? I seem to remember when I owned Cranes there were different pushrod heights between various brands. Thanks

    Yes, they were the same.
I used the same pushrods and only changed the lifters.

There tends to be standard height and +.130 height lifters most of your top notch race lifters are +.130. I think cranes when the came back our for some reason reverted back to the standard height.

In a Top Dragster application - we send Morels off for rebuild each offseason freshen up. My customer isn't the 'how many runs can we get' guy. We shift twice at 8500 with Manton rockers and go out the back 8800-9100.

I think with good valve train and minimal over revs and drama, the Morel works just fine for the TD application.

Sounds like I should just buy the Jesel from the start and I would be money ahead. we shouldn't see over 9600 rpm and it's 1/8th mile but I would like to get by with just changing rods, bearings, and belts during the season if possible (50-60 runs potential in a season) then do a full inspection and service. Thanks guys -Trev

While we're on the subject, how do Isky's rate? Anyone have any experience with them?

I have been using the Isky redzones in a car now, been testing them, so far they have been good. Going to be taking it apart and servicing everything for the customer here soon will know much more then.
