Just picked up a set of Bac Man Chevy heads, they came as a package deal with a slough of other parts, wondering if anyone can tell me anything about them? All the seller new was that the took 2.5" intake valves and used 1/2" head studs(came off a rodeck block). Does anybody know what intake manifolds might work with these? They came with a magnesium blower intake but it doesn't have a burst panel, and there doesn't appear to enough material to machine one in, not sure if trying to weld a frame on would be possible. The intake bolt spacing is 5" OC and the ports are also 5" OC, thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if there is any other manifolds that would match up to those ports? Need a burst panel for my pulling class, was thinking using a setback blower spacer would be another option, they look like a good flowing head and they came with the Jesel rocker setup so ill probably use them on my 548

Fred Mandolini made these, I owned a pair with the matching blower intake once. Neat setup but nearly impossible to replace. Mine took all off the shelf parts save for the intake which is an even spread deal similar to a Big Chief style head. They made several stages with varying valve sizes, I beleive mine were either a 2.375 or 2.4" intake, Fred is a little grumpy sounding over the phone which I am told by many is just Fred but he made some amazing stuff and is a very smart guy. I never got around to running mine as I was terrified of hurting them. I was 100_0268.JPG going to try IHRA TAFC with a big chevy :) back in the early 2000's but traded a complete Bac Man/New century chevy for enough parts to build 3 KB hemi's...no joke. You didn't get them from a guy Named Roman did you? If you want send me an email at Soldierboy0098@yahoo.com and I think I still have pics of mine with the intake I can send you. Best wishes -Trev

Found them! Rarest of the rare complete with Billet RCD 2 pc magnesium front dual mag drive thingy with gear drive, fuel pump extention, idler assy, and crank support all built in. RCD told me that was 1 of 3 and cost like $6,600 new. Someone told me there were only like 6 Bac Man intakes made but I cannot verify though Fred might be able to.

They came off of an old twd pulling truck from a guy in Illinois, they were on a blown 540 rodeck, long story short mains got pushed out of the block and motor went boom, he retired from pulling and I bought the truck and what was left of the good engine parts, I might just sell them and find a set of darts that match my other heads, less spare parts to drag around. I tried contacting Fred but didn't have any luck.

The Bac Man heads were very popular with Tractor Pullers and I know of several sets of heads that are still being used on Modified Tractors. It is my understanding that AJPE bought the rights to the Bac Man heads. Stouffer Engines near Chambersburg PA has Built quite a few engines with Bac Man heads and may be a good resource.

there were no patents or Rights to those heads and why would AJPE want them when he made his own heads and many versions of all different types for many different engines?

AJPE bought what was once referred to as the olds heads, there were 4 stages of those heads, I had a buddy with Stage 3's and AJ makes rockers for them to replace the old aluminum ones though this was a few years back when I spoke with them, I believe they still made the stg 4 heads at that time. The Olds heads are similar in some ways to the Bac Man but as far as I know no one makes those heads anymore. They are very cool but the last time I tried to find a set they were in Australia and were big bucks. Can't help you with Fred, he still does a lot of dyno work and is busy but I would say keep trying.
