Weight Savings With Short Deck?

    Guys and Gals...........

    All things being literally equal between two motors except for deck height, both being a billet BAE Block, one +.100 and the other being .500 short.


    Off the top of my head (the thinking head, not cylinder head ;-) ) The block, sleeves, connecting rods, and pushrods are all .6 inches shorter.

    What do you think the difference in weight would be if everything else was the same?

    Assuming you reduced your stroke some there would also be some weight savings in the crank.

    You would also have a narrower intake manifold so a little would be lost there too. Slightly shorter headers. Shorter head studs. I'm sure Brad could give the difference.

    I talked with Jeremy at BAE (Of course, very helpful), block alone is around 11 lbs lighter. Assuming same crank and all other parts that are the same, my guess is a total of 20 lbs after slightly shorter connecting rods, pushrods, and slightly smaller intake.

    total weight savings is usually 20-30 lbs depending on if you are going from an older style block to the new lightweight blocks.

    WOW... that's a lot of money spent for 20-30 lbs.
    I think Nutrisystem is only like $70 a week.

    If it turns out to be the right time to buy another block after a hopeful sale of smaller bore stuff, the cost for a different intake might be worth the cost of entry.

    I was 215 lbs in 2012 when I got started with this Hemi stuff (I'm 6'2"). I weigh 179 now, that's about all I can do in that arena :)
