Jeff Johnston oil pan question

    I just got a Jeff Johnston billet pan for a Big M BBC. Seems there isn't enough clearance at the timing cover and rear seal for a 1 piece pan gasket. And the holes don't match the gasket although the block does. I'm wondering if I need a different gasket or run just silicon. hell I don't know. Any ideas? Last thing I need is getting shut down at the line

    have same block and pan that you have..don't know about the one piece pan gaSKET but i did use the none smash reusable pan gaset from SCS[I THINK] and just used silcone front and rear..i noticed the jeff's pan didn't hgave every single hole that gastet and block has so just put bolts in holes that pan has oinly;;have no leaks;;hope this sort of help you

    Thanks for the input.

    I spoke to Jeff yesterday and he said not too many people are using the gaskets anymore so the tolerances on the pan are tighter. He said to use THE RIGHT STUFF gasket maker with no gasket so thats what I did.

    Drill and tap the pan for push bolts

    We have 1 of his pans on a Big M also. Ours has an o-ring on the long sides & I simply silicone the front & rear. It gos on & off well. I had fit issues when new & I looked at the tig welder & saw & told myself we bought a pan so I didn't have to make another, so I marked it up & sent it back, they reworked it & it's nice now.

    x2 I've used Versachem and Right Stuff with equal results - Versachem being easier to remove.

    I had the dubious honor of having to remove a hat that had been Right Stuffed to a Tunnel Ram the other day.
    After much tender persuasion it was not budging. Finally, in desperation I used a small torch tip and just went around and around the sealed joint. That softened it just enough to allow me to use a wood chisel to slip under a corner and pop it loose.

    All that trouble got me to wondering if greasing one of the two mating surfaces might solve the problem.
    In the case of an oil pan the block would be the greased side.
    Kind of half defeats the purpose of a solid seal I know but........

    O'reilly Auto Parts carries it in caulk gun variety tubes in my neck of the woods.
