Having troubles making it to the end with oil pressure. I have a BAE with funny car Williams pan and system 1 wet sump pump with 1.8 gears. #16 line to pump from pan and #12 to and from system 1 filter. I have tried running as much as 17 quarts with no luck. Pressure drops from 165 to 45 at about 4.8 seconds into run. I have tried lowering pressure screw doesn't help either. What kind of pumps are guys using for wet sumps with short funny car pans.

What size oil restrictions are you using for rocker arm oil?

I have not measured the restrictors. They are Manton stands and rockers and I would guess the hole is approximately .050

You should measure the ones in the block to be sure. If they are too big you will fill the valve covers with oil.

I just measured to confirm the holes are .050.....restrictors are not in block they are screwed in the bottom of the rocker stand.

    Mike,
What would stop someone,( me )

The reason the oil does not flow back is that on a blower motor we vent the crankcase through the valve covers so that the blowby rushes up the oil return passages running from the head back down to the crankcase. The air rushing up prevents the oil from coming back down. This is a theory. I have seen guys run -8 or -10 hoses from the valve covers back down to the crankcase. Some say that works on other say it doesn't. I do think that -6 lines would be too small. I don't think that running lines directly to your tank would work. The other theory is that the oil is held in suspension inside the crankcase by the spinning crank and I have seen people change the oil pan to add a big kickout and a screen and have fixed the problem. I do think you should be using about 18 qts of oil. That doesn't fix the problem but gives you enough oil to keep the pressure up until the finish line.

    oil

I just did a bunch of research on this and ended up copying a promod that goes 260 mph in the 1/4.
    BAE block
    .070 restrictors
    PNP wetsump std pump
    Williams pan
    12 qts of synthetic 60wt
I only run 1/8th so I have a little more wiggle room. I can't think of anything other than restrictors or the scavenging of the pump is not effective.
The drainback from the heads sucks but people have lived with it for a long time.

woulden the suction from the tank pull the oil out of the heads?
I'm saying #6 lines because i know the oil in the heads helps cool the ex. springs
and they woulden't take all the oil out.
I know it's off topic but i dont want to start another thread.

Do you have an internal support in the hose between pan and pump. Maybe you are pulling it flat.

That is a good thought. I run out of pressure at 4.2 seconds in run whether I have 13 or 18 quarts of oil. I have ran with restrictors in the rocker stands and with no restrictors but always run out of pressure at the same time. Has anyone ever had a problem with a new #16 line sucking shut??

Forgot to ask; who's oil filter do you have on it. I know of several folks who had the wrong system 1 screen for lighter oil in and it just wont allow enough 50+ weight to flow back.

all you have to do is get a realy strong vacum pump and block off one end and see if it collap's.
    do it from both ends

It is possible. Have you tried the hydraulic suction hose like most teams use ? Red stripe. ?

    Oil pressure

This sounds a lot like a problem I chased for months . When you lift off the throttle does your oil pressure recover back to normal ?

#16 line sucked shut on the burnout

I would have perfect oil pressure, do a burn out and oil pressure would go away, and go to the pits start up and all was fine, and finally felt off the #16 braided steel line (high quality line) and it was so soft, it was sucking shut and blocking oil pressure, and I put a hard RCD black rubber line on with the metal coil in it and no problems ever again! THANKS! Jim
