MSD MAG 44, miss/braking up ???

    I run a MSD Mag 44, with the wolferacecraft mount, with BigStuff3 EFI, Im have a bad miss/braking up problem at 6000 rpm and up, Ive tried everyting I can think of, if the mag was going bad would in cause this? or any ideas to try and look for? its getting worse every run.

    Several questions for you. Has this always been happening or did it start after it had been running OK? What do you gap your plugs at. How many runs on those plugs? Have you tried new plugs? What plug wires are you using? How long have you been using them and the coil wire? Are your heads grounded as per MSD instructions to each other and to the same grounding point as the coil? Do you use a crank trigger and if so have you phased the rotor?

    does the box have a chip in it?How old are the wires?

    just started after winter freshen up.

    New plugs 1st set gapped @ 18 second set gapped @ 14 ( 3 runs on 1st set 2 on new set)
    New MSD plg wires (5 runs now)

    Changed points box and coil

    yes I run crank trigger ( just put new one in) and tripple chacked the phaze

    and grounded just like you said.

    Wires are new MSD

    NO msd chip, I have to plug my BS3 into that spot.

    What are you using to power the BS3 and ignition system? 9 times out of 10 when all your connections and programming checks out, it's either the battery losing voltage somehow or a frayed wire in the points box. You've changed the points box. So..

    Could also be the generator itself too. Is it doing it just under load(WOT) or does it do it if you just bring the R's up on the jack stands?

    Make sure you don't have something set wrong in the BS3 program? If not, could be the BS3 box.

    Something could be wrong in the Generator. Send it to Bob Wyman at www.brmotorsports.com, he is pretty good at servicing/checking generators.

    Even if that is not the problem, you will have a better generator more than likely than when you sent it to him.

    are the injectors in good working order, if its missing it could as easily be a fueling issue,
    especialy if they were left with alcohol residue in them over the winter,
    is it a two injector system? as far as the mag goes if you changed all the boxes and leads you need to try another generator as said to eliminate or prove a fault with yours
    i beleive you can plug the mag into its own trigger and unplug your bs3 and it should still run with fixed timing to prove or eliminate any bs3 fault, is it all the time or only under load, ??

    Good recommendation Graham. The other thing is to disconnect the crack trigger and try it. Do you have the crank trigger wire shield grounded? That crank trigger can pick up electromagnetic interference from the high voltage spark and randomely trigger the ignition and cause a missfire.

    I am sorry to all who thinks this may sound dumb but I have seen it more than once, especially after a freshen up, make sure it is not some sort of cam swap firing order such as a 4/7 or a 2/3 swap.

    mag trouble

    I had the same problem at about 7000 rpm. I went through everything and found it was RFI so I shielded evry wire that came near any of the ignition. Never had a problem since.
