i'm a personal friend of john's. he completely admits it was his 'bad' chilling that fuel has really come down to a science, mainly of time. he got bumped up a pair or two and it was 65 outside, not bringing the fuel to temperature as quickly as he thought.
collins told the nhra staff in the morning he was going to 'make an example' at this race for TAD. congrats...he did. john's fuel was 49 on the bottom and 52 on the top. collins WOULD NOT let them stir the tank or even wait a few seconds. and john is a pretty fair racer, as most of you know.
all weekend they were using a gun on the fuel lines right before the burnout and not taking it directly from the tanks. naturally everyone was fine by the burnout.
it's just a crappy situation. john chilled too much and collins wouldn't budge... hard lesson learned, he had mercier first round and would have then faced nicholson who is d1 also and major competition.
we will see what houston brings!!!!!!
