I remember like 5 years ago the IHRA opened up the A-Fuel rules to allow them to compete with Top Fuel. Did anybody even qualify in TF with an A-Fuel car???

I "think" it happened one time. I don't remember who it was but it seems like someone qualified an A-fueler 8th in an 8 car field.

I may be wrong. I've slept since that time. :D

Ed Verenka qualified twice (in 06 and 05), but did not run fantastic #'s. He went a 5.35 best one year and a 5.44 best the other. This year Don St Arnaud would have qualified at Edmonton as well. He went 5.32, and the #8 was the hitter known as smax smith. Who went 8 something

yes bob leverich did in 2006

bob leverich did in 2006 in maryland and almost won but due to smoking tires off the car he had to peda lit and lost by car lenght and after that race they cancel class just as leverich racing was getting the tune up figure out,how many a-fuel cars can smoke there tires off at the hit?if they would gave them 1 more year you would of seen first 4.90 injected nitro car on nos with clutch management so until they allow. good luck

I believe Keith Stark was also making a lot of progress with his nitrous injected A/Fueler before the IHRA nixed them.

Why would they need NOS and Clutch Management? They can run 5-teens with 94%! Let them tip the can and watch them fly!

I have to say Bob has really hit on a key point. The race car must have a name or have the drivers name in big letters. The drivers must take part in fanfest etc. Fans want some one to cheer for and this has been missing from drag racing for a long time at this level. Maybe IHRA does or does not turn out to be the best partner but I applaud Bob's initiative and pursuit of his passion. Lots will be learned from the program. He is trying to do more than most.

Leverich got in in 2006 in Budds creek as an alternate he (as #10 in the field)did not go any quicker than a 6 something at any other event I remember, he did qualify at Toronto the week before (a 6 second et again)
Raced Verenka in round one Verenka won, he was the only one to go past round one as an a/fuel car.
His car was never close to running in the mid to low fives. THey added a blower with Smith driving and was a bomb with a short fuse at all events.

Just saw this in DRM. Now we have somenames

One of the most-asked questions since we have retooled the Nitro Jam is,
“What is a Pro Fuel Dragster?” The best answer is that it is an A/Fuel Dragster
on steroids. The steroids in this case would be 100% nitromethane and the addition of clutch management. The expectations are that these changes should eventually produce a 4.90-second car with the nitro cackle and header flame the fans crave. The whole idea is to create a fanfriendly nitro class that doesn’t cost the racer the gross national product of a developed nation to compete. As I have said countless times, nitro racing expenses are so out of hand that it will be the domain of only a choice few and the only thing that the current problem will continue to do is drive ticket prices up. That is a road to nowhere. Thanks to class guru Bob Otto and racers like Mike Manners, Bill Evans, Jeff Hamelink, Brandon Pierce, Robin Samsel, Jeff Veale and others this should be one of the most competitive, fun-to-watch nitro classes ever. The fun begins January 29-30 in Palm Beach.

they want 8 to confirm for all 10 events. For any events the eight who commit cant make they will have alternates, off the waiting list.
