    Locks ?????????????

The Top Fuel teams use both 10° and T/F 7° locks. I do not know that any of them use a SUPER 7.
The Super 7° is an 8° keeper and decreases the cross section of the retainer. The decrease in cross section does not work well with the retainers we use when using either a Ti spring or a small diameter dual (PAC or MANLEY).
I highly recommend using a T/F 7° lock and retainer combination in any engine that is going to be used at 10000 RPM or higher.
The T/F 7° is available as a Lock or a LASH-LOCK from MANTON. It available as a LOC-CAP from MANLEY, and from JT Stewart Co. it is called a LASH-KEEPER.
At this time I do not know of any other manufacture that makes this design. ( T/F 7° )
Retainers to fit the T/F 7° taper are available from AJPE, MANLEY, BAE, MANTON.

What do you guys think of this: I can run a dual spring that is 447 seat pressure at 2.200 and 1300 open pressure or a dual spring that is 525 on the seat and 1450 open.

Is too much pressure not good? I have steel rockers & 1.062 lifters with 5/8 manton pushrods.

    Thanks,
    Billy

Just wanted to extend a big thank you to Noel at Manton for taking the time to discuss our issues with us. He is a truely knowledgable individual with great insight and some products that we could not do with out in our situtation. Noel has a keeper that will get our installed height down .150 thou which is a lifesafer right now.

You saved our team owner driver some headaches. :D

    Thanks Again Noel!

PAC makes a retainer with a ridge at the bottom of the hole to prevent the locks from pulling through.

That's good to know. I have been using Crane's version satisfactorily for quite some time. I was wondering where to go now that Crane is kaput.

At the risk of talking about things people might not beleive, here I go.

I'm confused about spring psi. I've experienced myself what great things increasing spring psi can do for the performance of our BBC alky motors.

But, as far as the math...
In the diesel tractorpulling world, 250 psi is a common boost number. With a Ø2.250 intake valve, you would need nearly 1000 lbs seat psi just to beat the boost:confused: I can garauntee there are guys running way way less than that and are supercompetitive.

I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, I just thought I would share these numbers.

There are a couple of factors that I could think of that may be at play on the tractors, of course a lot of this is speculation. When you are running any turbo you are using the pressure/heat, volume, and velocity of the exhaust to drive the turbo. When you have multiple turbos I would imagine the backpressure goes up pretty high so you always have some resisdual pressure in the cylinder so you do not have 250 on one side and zero on the other. On top of that when you do have that much boost at moderate rpm I would think the cylinder gets filled with air pretty quickly at that point the forces, pressure in the cyl to pressure in the manifold are not that far apart so the pressure differential is not as great as it would seem, that said if they could run 1000 psi maybe it would help, On a footnote: I wonder if you could fit a 3 inch vavle spring and a 3/4" pushrod in a big tractor motor

Conversly on a BBC blower motor at 6-10,000 rpm the exhaust is wide open and vavle control is up to the spring.

I would look forward to hearing someone who runs staged turbos and what their experience is on the subject.
