I recently saw a funny car with mounts to support the CS1 lenco 3 speed with supports down the side of the lenco and mounted to a crossmember, as how you see a lenco mounted in a Pro mod car. What advantages or disadvantages would this do in a Funny Car. interested to see other peoples throughts.

i have never seen one mounted like that in a hard tail chassi due to the flex in the frames

lenco mounts generally a good idea if front case fails, can and will take your legs out!
not that it is that common but a local racer had his reverse lever make a bit of a mess of his legs.

I have worked on several funny cars, and I have seen some really dangerous reverser handles; steel with a "T" welded on the top. The first thing I did was make one out of 1/4 inch flat aluminum, no t on top. Then I drilled holes in it down low, so if the trans breaks and spins, the lever will just fold over when it hits your leg.

I blew a Lenco CS1 in half a few years ago. Thankfully the trans blanket contained everything and kept it from rotating. Back then I had braided stainless shift lines. When I realized what they would do to my legs if the trans rotated I got rid of them and went to plastic hoses. Sure they might burn but they wont saw my legs off. As for the reverse lever-mine is aluminum with lots of holes drilled in it. I want it to break if need be. I leave 3/16" end play in my diveshaft because of chassis flex. Fastening the trans solidly might make the trans the flex point. I am betting if I ask the mag trans cases to flex they will say "up yours, I quit, and break". Dave Germain
