YNOT Racing Top Alcohol Dragster Sonoma Wrap Up

Sonoma, CA - 180 seconds. A mere three minutes, that is what stood between YNOT racing and what could have been another final round appearance for the 2007 season. On Sunday afternoon Team YNOT faced off in the second round of competition with proven A/Fuel power house Morgan Lucas. At the green Lucas started to make a very hard move and then overpowered the race track and smoked the tires, while Whiteley streaked away to a very solid 5.32 second run and victory. Then just past the finish line stripe the engine suffered extensive damage

Team YNOT headed back to the pit area, and got into thrash mode. With the help of Team Perkins the crews went to work trying to repair the wounded engine. At one point, crew members were purportedly told by officials that there would be an additional class of cars run in the schedule, thus giving a few more precious minutes to facilitate the repairs. Unfortunately this did not occur and the crews from both teams continued to work feverishly. To save time, driver Jim Whiteley got suited up and strapped into the car, and only a one more set of valves needing to be adjusted, tow vehicle ready to go, NHRA officials told the team that they had started their opponent Brandon Lewis and Team YNOT’s day was over.

Lewis, on his run, smoked the tires right on the starting line so, it became anybody’s guess what could have happened if the two had had a chance to race. As the saying goes, “That’s racing”.

Nevertheless, the semi-final round finish does move Whiteley up two positions to number six in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national points chase

Team YNOT would like to thank the Perkins Family for their help in getting the car ready for the semi-final round race. Also Team YNOT would like to congratulate those great guys from Oklahoma the Lewis Family on their second, final round appearance of the year. The team would also like to say our thoughts go out to Kate Harker and Tom Conway. We’re glad Kate is OK, and Tom, hang in there.

Team YNOT will stay the week at Sonoma for the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Event coming up this weekend. Looking for another strong finish and moving up in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division Seven points chase.

Team YNOT would like to thank Permatex, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, Valspar/House of Kolor, J&A Services, Raptor Industries, Advanced Oil Field Services and Impact Race Products for their continued support.
