Team YNOT Goes to another Final Round

Brainerd, MN - Jim Whiteley and the YNOT Racing Team made their maiden voyage to the to “The Land of 10,000 Lakes” as the participated in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division Five kick at the scenic Brainerd International Raceway. While most of the team members had never been to the facility, Crew Chief Norm Grimes and Consultant Allan Russell had run there before with some success with the Jack O’Bannon team, some years ago. This weekend was about keeping the momentum going from the last two events where YNOT Racing had very consistent performances and finishes.

In the first session on Friday, Whiteley and the team made a very solid 5.61 at 250.37 miles per hours. This accomplished two things, put Whiteley in the top half of the show and giving Crew Chief Norm Grimes a baseline from which to work from.

On Saturday the weather and the track seem to come around and the performances improved accordingly. The second session Whiteley drove the white dragster to a very nice 5.48 second run at just over 261 miles per hour. That run gave Crew Chief Norm Grimes more information to work with. He was then able to turn the wick up on the Team YNOT car for the final qualifying session, and the results a best elapsed time of the year to date, 5.38 at over 266 miles per hour and a number 2 qualifying position.

On Sunday Whiteley’s first round opponent was Edwin Schmeeckle. In a very close race, Whiteley was able to drive around Schmeeckle’s starting line advantage, and hold off the fast closing Nebraska driver after the blower belt came off the Team YNOT dragster, 5.58 to Schmeeckle’s 5.61.

Round Two Whiteley was paired up against the A/Fueler of Winnipeg’s Scott Murry. This round Whiteley had a solid light and made a very nice lap, taking the win over Murry who “blew the tires off” at the hit of the throttle. Whiteley’s time 5.43 seconds at 265 miles per hour.

This placed Whiteley in his second final round of the year facing Iowa’s Richard Putz. Putz finished number two in D5 last year. Putz was able to parlay a slight starting line advantage in to a win as the Team YNOT Dragster starting shooting out spark plugs and slowed from its previous runs on Sunday.

Team YNOT’s next event is the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Summer Nationals held at Heartland Park Topeka, June 1-3, in Topeka Kansas.
Everybody at YNOT Racing would like to thank Permatex, NGK Spark Plugs, Valspar/ House of Kolors, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, J&A Services and Raptor Industries for their continued support and encouragement so far this season.
