who can size/mill down pistons pins

I have about 50 new pins that are 1.25 and i would like to have them machined down to 1.094 which would still leave me with a .300 wall pin.

Who could do this, cost?

Agree it probably is not a good idea. In an emergency we have done it in a crank grinder, but it takes time and skill.

 

I'd think for what you'd pay in machine time, then having them re-polished, then checked....I could sell you brand new ones for less or about the same. I'd list them for sale on here and order precisely what you need.

These might be the only people that will discuss it. They have centerless grinders and ground down some odd ball pins for me years ago. They can probably give you some insight on the feasibility. I kind of wonder what happens to the hardness with that much material removed.

If the pins are tool steel (H11/H13) then you can resize them but, with that much wall thickness I doubt that the pins are tool steel. Standard pins have surface hardening (nitriding or tuftriding) and cannot be resized by more than a few thousandths without removing the surface hardening.

If the pins are tool steel then you need to locate a machine shop (not automotive) that has a 'centerless grinder'

hi what about boring pistons and rods, to make them fit. pins are very hard steel and too costly to cut down. they have several sets on ebay for sale.

 

I have plenty of new 1.094's, just didn't want to throw these in the trash can if they could be re-purposed. They weigh 460 grams.
