We raced Pat Austin in the final at Mission in 1999. In the semi finals against Bucky we lost a blower belt after the finish line, which did all kinds of damage, which took extra time to fix as we were short handed. In spite of the division 6 director's insistance that Pat go to the staging lanes without us Walt and Pat parked their TA/FC behind our trailer and refused to move until we were ready to go. It turned out to be an unbelievable race for us, and I will never forget that show of sportsmanship on their part.

    The Austins

They were The Team! They were so kind and dear to me throughout the years that we raced together. I just Love the whole family and really do miss them. Although we were competitors at the line......we were and still are friends. They even lent me parts to compete against them. God Bless them ....they are missed! Bunny & The Boys

Other than my DAD, Mr Walt Austin and his family have been the most influencial people in my racing life.

I owe most of my knowledge of top alcohol engines to Walt , Pat and Mike.

What's Mike up to? I think he still owes me a round of golf.

I met the Austins a long time ago. They have treated me like I was a part of the family ever since. They are truly great people and the top alcohol class is less for their absence. Mike is running the IRC business these days while Pat is managing several Pro-Max stores. I remember one year at Medford when Pat tossed the panels in the semis. It killed the motor and pretty well broke the body in half. They replaced the motor and patched the body back together to make the finals against uncle Bucky. I don't even remember who won- just getting to the line was winning enough for me. There was no giving up in their vocabulary. Dave Germain
