What if??? Question for TAD experts

    If a-fuelers were allowed to run at 100%, what would they run under good conditions?

    By the same token, if the blown cars hands were completely untied (meaning, a blown car could run any type of blower and cubic inch on alcohol, no restrictions. Whipple, or anything else) what would they run under good conditions (this assumes no nitrous or nitro in the tank. just alcohol)?

    Finally, if the a-fuelers were allowed to run at 100% with the same types of clutch setups as top fuel, what would they run?

    If blown cars were allowed to run with no limits as described above, and they could use better clutch systems, what would they run?

    if both combos were unrestricted, i think you'd see the a/fuelers in the 5.0's, if not 4.90's pretty quickly. teens would be pretty common. mph would be in the high 280's, low 290's, occassionally pushing the 300 mark.

    as for the blown cars, just bolting a C blower on the current combo might push the cars into the low .20's, maybe a high teen in the right conditions. to go any further, i think a 5.0 or bigger bore spacing motor would need to be developed and refined to take advantage of the increased airflow the blowers could put out. today's superchargers have made the cylinder head the bottle neck. so the only real gain would be making the boost quicker with marginal gains in the higher rpms.

    clutch management would help some, not a bunch, as well.

    there have been a number of racers who tried the 100%, big cid, and clutch managment for a couple of years when IHRA allowed injected cars to compete in Top Fuel. None of them had much luck. On paper all this sounds great and with enough people trying this it could possibly have results like Will posted but the a-fuel combination that has been developed and refined over the past 10 years works very well for those who have it figured out.
    Could it help? Maybe. Could it hurt performance? Maybe.
