    Weather Station

I got one of the Kestral Hand held meters. Model 4250 cost me about $260.00 Doesn't look as fancy as a trailer mounted units but its just as accurate, compared it to a buddy's fancy expensive unit and the differences were not worth talking about, buddy was pissed because he drop huge bucks on his. Plus you can take it to the starting line and get measurments from there.

Kestrel 4250 for me too. Customizable screens. I set one screen to show temp, baro, and humidity, the other screen to density altitude, RAD, and water grains. Quick, easy, small, cheap.

Learned using just an air density gauge. That's all we had in the day.
Since then I have had different "stations" over the years and now use the Kestrel 4250. It's just too cool for all the previously stated reasons.

For doing predictions and comparing 1 lap to the next I use the Density program from Patrick Hale. It's alky and injected friendly.
That weather book I stock has all the math in it that created the Density program if the nuts and bolts interest you.

Looks like Jegs has now got the Kestral stuff.

Plus they will probably know the best way to get you one seeing as your from a little ways away.

    JEGS.com
Just type Kestral into the search box. First one you see is the 4250. Price is spot on as well.

    My Kestral 4250

I like mine pretty good, but I have a question.

Can I slow down the sampling rate or something to get my DA from moving around so much.

Seems to crawl around more than it should. Suggestions??

    Thanks, K

    Kestrel

    Hey Greg,

I've got one and keep it in the tow car. Remind me to show you next time I come 'round. I like it because you can take a 'snap-shot' of conditions whenever (and wherever) you want, and download those recordings to your computer through a dock.

I check to make sure the track elevation is reads correct. If not you can adjust accordingly on the 4250 and then take your readings.

The local airport can be a considerably different altitude than the track in question.
For finding the track geo altitude I use Google Earth. Zoom right in to the starting line. Pretty cool when you can find the track going uphill or downhill.

Gorr System for the gauges and Davenport for modding fuel system. Altalab has a very nice unit that will post directly to your RacePak and can page you with updates in the lanes.

I bought the Performaier Eclipse. It has a boatload of features but I'm too challenged to get past the altitude and wind gust readings.

Someday, I'll sit down and figure out all the other gizmos that this product offers. It's about $800 so it's not cheap but so far it has treated me well. It is portable so you can bring it to the line. According to the head guy at Altronics, they lease their patented technology to Kestrel and several other manufactures of weather systems.

Scroll untill you get to the altitude reading and you can adjust up or down by pressing the center button then up or down button as needed. Check with the tower for correct elevation.
