Finally the season is here. This weekend at Houston Raceway Park, the Shelly Howard racing team is going to try and regain the TAD title they held twice before. Shelly and the team knows it will be a tough task, with one of the stars in the class, Ashley Force back to defend her title. Division 4 has always been one of the toughest top Alcohol divisions in NHRA drag racing, but now it has become probably THE toughest A/Fuel division in the NHRA. 11 Dragsters are entered for this weekend’s event and 10 of them are of the A/Fuel variety. The term just qualifying really will mean something at a Division 4 race this season. After testing extensively for the last month at this very track, Shelly and the team are confident they can be solidly in the field and go rounds on Sunday. But with the new rules, the consistency factor for the A/Fueler’s could rear its ugly head. The team has run a best of 5.38 in testing and has turned in what is the fastest speed so far this year, a strong 272 mph.

Friday’s first round of qualifying saw Shelly run slightly off her testing best, a 5.46 that puts her #3 in the field after one round. Saturday will see two more rounds and hopefully
    a tenth improvement in ET.

Shelly would like to thank all her crew for all their hard work over the winter preparing the car, including husband Paul, crew chief Tom Conway, Shane, Keith, Jim and Cody.

The team would not be where they are at with the great support of their sponsors Valvoline Oil, NGK Spark Plugs, Tulsa Sheet Metal, Moritz Machine and Broken Arrow Powder Coating.
