Has anyone tried something like a rear line-lock setup with 4 rear calipers, instead of a trans-brake, in a blown converter deal? How did it work out?

There is no way the rear brakes could hold a blown motor going wide open on a two step because of first gear ratio.

Mike is correct. At the rear brake the engine torque is multiplied by the transmission ratio times the rear end ratio. The rear brakes on a sportsman dragster (500 hp) can not hold it staged. The transmission brake only has to control engine torque, not engine torque multiplied by gear ratio. This is why they exist as they do. It would reduce vehicle reaction time if it was feasible to hold them with the rear brakes.
