Just an update on what we have been working on with the PSA over the past few weeks.

We have started hitting the media with a great story on new PSA member Johnny Ahten before Pomona and yesterday put out a preview on the title contenders in TAD/TAFC. The season preview is a prime example of the 'special media' projects we plan on hitting throughout the year - pumping up the classes.

I have been on the phone with a number of former members and have listened to a number of concerns. Namely we don't have enough participation/representation on the west coast, communication problems and lack of action for members. We are working very hard to build our west coast membership up, streamline communication and definitely give all of our members the feeling they got something for their money.

One of our areas of focus is to try to get some more promotion of some of the Western Regionals. After some preliminary discussions with NHRA, we were able to help put together a program for this weekend's Phoenix Regional. At last weekend's national event, they told fans they could get in free to this weekend's regional with a ticket stub from the national. If we can keep making steps like this in the right direction, we can achieve our goals.

We are also working to schedule the Top Alcohol autograph sessions well in advance of the nationals that way racers have time to plan for it. Obviously like anything else on the schedule, it's subject to change. For instance, as of right now, we have an autograph session scheduled in Gainesville at 11:30 am Saturday morning.

As mentioned earlier I am working on contacting each former and current member personally. We have already received verbal and financial commitments from:

    Mark Billington
    Marty Thacker
    Bryan Brown
    Duane Shields
    Matt Cummings/Stan Stripe
    Johnny Ahten
    Chris Demke
    Len Cottrell/Mike Burns
    Jay Blake/Todd Veney
    Gene Snow
    Mark Taliaferro
    Chris Foster
    Forrest Fair
    Eric Krume
    Coby Jones
    Will Hanna/DragRaceHose.com

We are obviously working hard to grow this list, but we feel we are off to a good start. The PSA is far from dead!

I hope to see more of you jump on board!

    Good questions Geno.

We just spoke on the phone, but I want to answer your questions publicly to keep everyone in the loop.

As mentioned above, we worked with the NHRA to arrange the ticket stub promotion from the national to the divisional. I have not had a chance to follow up to see if that had any success. With inclement weather involved Saturday, it may be hard to tell if it was successful.

In 2012 the PSA spent a lot of time and focus trying to get local media coverage. We had very little success with this. We have adjusted our strategy to let the tracks deal with the local media since there is more of a relationship there. If the tracks need media material to give the local media, we are ready to assist.

As far as doing a press release before the event, the PSA does not have the budget at the time to do a release before each event, or after. Instead of focusing on event releases, we are focusing on doing feature stories on our membership and feature stories on the classes. That was what we put out last week on our Top Alcohol preview for the year.

Regarding East vs West, I am working very hard to get more West Coast guys on board and make sure we get the people who have supported the PSA over the last two years back on board. We are actively trying to recruit someone from the West Coast to be on the board. As far as individual spotlights, those will be on members who desire to have a feature done on them, regardless of where they are from.

We did not have an autograph session scheduled for the Phoenix regional because it traditionally is not well attended by spectators.

    Phoenix

We were pitted right at the entrance from the parking lot this weekend and I know there was a lot of traffic going by are pit on Sunday. It was not a Woodburn size crowd but it was better then what is normally seen at the Division 7 races. This was even with the Bush race going on in Phoenix this weekend also.
