Blown alcohol engine with Pro Mag 44. Starts and runs, but timing light will not fire. Any ideas on problem? Just cheap parts store timing light, but tried it on personal vehicle and works fine.

    timing light

    obviously it's the timing light.

At very least invest in a flaming river timing light.

The best money is the MSD timing light. If you can't see the timing mark good and get the timing wrong, you can tear up a lot more than the money you will spend on the timing light. The MSD is the brightest one I have used and makes it easier to see the timing mark. The Flaming River one will get the job done, just not as bright.

I'm not a fan of anything with a dial on it for "advance." You want a 'dumb' timing light. You don't want the timing light to have the ability to move on it's own.

Thank you, Wil. That is what it was. New timing light works great.
