What may well be one of the longest-standing records in British Drag Racing
was not so much broken as shattered at Round One of the 2005 FIA Drag
Racing championships, held at Santa Pod Raceway over the weekend.

Trevor Capewell, from Dartford in Kent, England, broke the British Top
Methanol Funny Car record by a huge (in drag racing terms) 0.125 seconds,
recording an ET of 6.005 seconds at 236.88 mph. This is only Trevor's
second season in Top Methanol, after a long time campaigning a Super Comp
car. He bought the Saab bodied TMFC from Leif Helander and has quickly
proven himself to be a capable tuner and driver of blown methanol cars.

The previous record was set by Alan Jackson, now a highly-acclaimed crew
chief on several Top Fuel cars, at 6.13 seconds back in August 1996 at what
was then called Avon Park Raceway, near Stratford-on-Avon. He promised to
"dust the cobwebs off the certificate and hand it over as soon as I can
remember where I put it !".
