I need to know what brand of leak down gauge you guys prefer.
I have the simplest one that summit sells but its not as accurate as I would like, but I guess then again I don't want to spend a fortune.
Please give me what you guys like and where to get it.

I use a moroso and I've seen several others using the same in the pits. I bought mine on eBay for $20 used since the seller had lost some of the fittings.

BigB, are you just going to use thise leakdown gauge for leaking the cylinders down or are you going to also use it to check and set poppets and barrell valves?

Sorry Mike I should of been more specific. We are using it to leak down the Barrell Valve, I would appreciate if you would explain how to check and set the poppets with it I didnt know you could do that.

I ordered large accurate gauges and an accurate regulator from both MSC and from Graingers and made by own leakdown tester. You would need to buy a couple of flowed accurate 80 bypass jets from Ralph Gorr or Davenport. I have one in between the two gauges as the internal regulating orifice and I use the other one as a checker. With 100 lbs on the first gauge (input preessure) with a 80 jet plugged on the output (mode a fitting) it should show 80%. That is the standard.

I made adapter to hook up the poppets on the outpu side then start at zero pounds and turn up the regulator until it just cracks the poppet and air starts flowing and I read the pressure. If you leave it at a pressure below the crack pressure then there should be no airflow. If so then you need to check the poppet seating.

You can't you need a separate gage to set the poppet's, check Eric Bru's site to see them.

No you don't, You can do it with a leak down tester. You just read the pressure off either gauge because they will both read the same up to the poppet crack point. Works great.

I use a waterman guage/regulator set up to set poppet pressures and a DSR leakdown tester to set the BV. works great.

Just for the record, my poppet tester only has one gauge... These are ELI's picts. Mine works for me, his works for him.

I set my pump saver poppet using the car's CO2 bottle. I attach the poppet to it and turn up the bottle regulator while watching the gauge on the bottle.

Top pic. is of my leak down tester,2 and 3 are of the poppet tester last one is of the first leak down tester i made with big gages as if I'm blind. any way the orifice is 0.040 not 0.080 it goes between the two gages i got mine from spud, The blow gun is to check nozzles the other is for jets. see this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leak-down_tester. the 3 gages for the poppet's are because a gage is the most accurate at the middle reading. Example 0 to 100 lb. gage is more accurate at 50 lbs. Gene Terenzio Sr.

Would you need the orfice if you put the first gauge on the regulator instead of behind it?

    Poppet tester

Eli, I was able to see how you built the poppet tester in the second picture but the little piece of braided line has me a little stumped. What is it for??:)

    Thanks

It adapts to the # 8 fitting and gets reduced to a # 6 so I can adj.# 6 poppet. There is a fitting that goes from # 8 to # 6 but this is what i had.
