Does anyone have a drawing of starter gear location in relationship to crank centerline?. What is the most common choice for a 168 tooth ring gear?. I already have midplate drawing just need to add starter hole at correct clocking to clear frame and such.

The problem with a 168 tooth ring gear is it will not fit inside most cans with the inner shield since the change a few years ago that required the inner shield to come all the way to the mid plate. We had to use a 162 ring gear with a 12 tooth pinion on the starter.

You are so right, this is a major pain in the ass. Unfortunately I have a 10.7 crower with about the only available ring gear available 168 tooth.

You can do a chevy style starter. That what I did with my clutch. Never was an issue. They made a olds flywheel fit mine. 166a flywheel. Was the nhra Cert flywheel fix.

What a cluster f__k. Talked with crower and they do make several special ring gears, the 166 was one option but I think the inside of my can would still be tight. Looking to confirm the later year cans were larger barrels. I know I can make my 10 clutch work but want option to swap in the 10.7.

It works just fine on the older cans with the liner update. I have a 11 in 2 disc aft and they both had 166a flywheels. Yeah it’s tight but it clears just fine.

If you send your can into Trick Ti for re-cert then they will automatically update it and you will have to get a new flexplate

All the update doesn’t is charge you for a new liner. And they move the liner all the way out to the edge of the mid plate . You can send it in to them. Pay for the update and then when you get it back take the one bolt out that hold the liner in, move it back the 1/2 inch and tap the hole. Whall-la!

My can has a two piece liner that extends to mounting flange already. Do they change it to a one piece ?.

Talked with trick and they said cans after 2009 or 2010 were larger barrels. He said a 6.3 can would have to liners .400 outer and .500 inner. Inner liner trimmed back .500 from flange.
