I was told just yesterday by Len Imbrogno that there was to be a meeting Monday of the Division Directors, and this was going to be one of the topics covered. The results of that meeting will go before the NHRA Competition Committee to finalize any new rules or lack there of.

In the past, NHRA has made a statement regarding what they will do on the rules, even when they left them alone, so I am inclined to think this batch of rules primarily covered safety regulations.

The new rule about rear wings says the combined total of all elements must be 1500 square inches. Is that a minimum, maximum, or are we all going to have to run a spec wing?

    Definately unneeded!

So, the TAD guys just get the honor of hanging more weight on the car in the form of a roll cage parachute, I mean shroud.

How much does that little custom fitted piece of titanium cost anyway?

How many alchohol cars this year had a hunk of tire fly up to provoke this new rule?

1500 square inch minimum...if so nearly every blown car will have to get a new wing and wing stands. most if not all blown wings are 999 square inches and lower i believe.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car, cars with a supercharger/intake-manifold burst panel in the rear must have four-inch-minimum-diameter ducting of .024-inch steel or .032-inch aluminum installed to relieve burst pressure from the burst-panel vicinity through the firewall and out the side window. Laminated safety glass or fire-resistant plastics are mandatory for the fire windows.

The parachute in Top Alcohol Funny Car must be assisted by a launcher system, air or spring. A pilot spring will not constitute a launcher but is acceptable as a secondary unit. Also, the parachute floor must be flat and may not extend more than six inches rearward or beyond the parachute pack, whichever is less. The use of a wicker on the parachute floor is prohibited.

looks like f/c gets some pain along with TAD!

I read it as EQUALS, a spec wing.

    Wing

The way I read it, the wing must be 1500 square inches. I think the wings are going to have to change.

    Cricket

In Top Alcohol Dragster, the combined total area of rear wing, including the total of all stages and/or elements, must equal 1,500 square inches

gotta be a misprint. blown cars will have a hard time pulling a wing that size. i wouldn't worry about it just yet

Before the rule books are printed, unless they already are, the TADs should lobby for some other form of material to be used for the shroud. $2400 is more than just a little rediculous. I think if an 1/8 inch piece of aluminum protects your spine (the blast shield), A similar piece would do fine around the cage. I think NHRA forgot we're sportsman racers when they wrote these rules.

And yeah, the 1500 inch wing reads requirement, but should be maximum.

How much do you think Chris or Julie Russell would pay to have that shield installed??? If $2400 is too rich for your blood, your in the wrong sport...

270MPH is quite far from 330MPH in centripetal force.

How many incidents were there this year?

I may be wrong, but when Hitchman had his sand trap episode at Sears Point last year, the wing strut came very close to going through the back of the cage.

If this stops one incident from happening in the future it would be worth it...
