Throw that tach away. You don't need no stinking tach. Remember the 2 Step is shutting down spark to cylinders to keep that RPM down. This makes the tach go crazy. So the answer is YES that is normal. Hope you are installing a fuel bypass solenoid to dump some fuel when on the Step

doesn,t matter what motor it is. you need to keep that extra fuel away. or you will be asking why my stuff is all over the starting line and track

    solenoid

    Doc,

The common set up is a nitrous solenoid (for methanol) that activates off a clutch switch or tbrake switch. Depending on the fuel system, most have a 75 to 120 jet open while on the 2 step to basically act like the barrel valve at stage. When you go wide open, you put WOT fuel through the BV.

Like yourself, I have heard of people doing the 2 step without leaning it out, but I would think it would help it at stage.

Clearly there is more than one way to do this, but there are some very successful cars that do not take away any fuel.
