2-step Powergrid with or without air throttle?

    Hi,

    We're also finished with our combo over here in The Netherlands.
    TFX with screw and veney heads.
    Bruno/Lenco 3 spd
    I came from doorslammer et racing.
    We built in a Powergrid and want to use the 2-step for the launch.
    I read that with the pedal to the max the butterflies are fully open and the egt's will be too cold.
    Should i put in an air throttle for launch or can i better raise the temps? But how?
    Hope on some advice.

    Tom, you are only up on the 2 Step for 1 to 2 seconds. I have not seen a problem with the EGTs dropping too low.

    If you are running a dial in class I would recommend using an air throttle to go part throttle and using the grid 2 step to control rpm. You will get a lot more blower belt life that way.

    The screw guys in PX go wide open on the two step to get quicker reaction times and better 60' times. They also only get 1-4 runs on a blower belt.

    I built a Top Dragster combination for a guy over the winter. We use the K&R dual cylinder air throttle with the K&R delay box. This dual cylinder deal lets you put the pedal wide open as soon as you arm the "pro stage" on the delay box (usually before pre staging). The delay box will make the air throttle open only during the delay in the box. Basically it insures you are on the throttle the same amount of time every run vs having to be on the two step manually and potentially longer one run vs shorter the next.

    I don't know if a delay box is legal in the class you are wanting to race.

    A few tips on the air throttle - I would set it to at least .25" opening so the arm has some mechanical advantage to get to the same spot every time. I tried a smaller opening and the boost at stage would vary from run to run. Also, you want to mount the solenoid that controls the air throttle as close as you can to the cylinder.

    A delay box is not allowed in Super Pro Et.
    We only want this year to run in it and get some runs.
    Next season we will probably step up to TMFC.

    If you are worried about being overrich while on the 2-step, you can wire in an electric lean-out (converter helper) that will pull away some fuel and keep the motor happier.

    an electronic two step isnt allowed in TMFC if its a learning year then your better off learning and not use the two step

    If you are still concerned about being over rich in stage, we have a (not the latest model) electronic lean out valve from Spud Miller (Fuel Injection Enterprises) that we don't use. It's brand new and unused and we'll have it with us at the Pod for the Summer Nats if you want to take a look at it...
