I have a 526 BAE Hemi MAG 44 I currently use 2-12 volt rock batteries for a total of 24 volts, it starts great!! My question is I want to lighten up my race car by getting rid of the 2 agm lead batteries and the 16 feet of 1 gauge cabling to the rear and run 1 lithium 16 volt battery.... Will 16 volts start this combo? Anybody doing it? Thanks Chris

    Start

I start mine with one 16v battery and had no probs but doesn't spin the motor over near as fast as the 24v did.

    Will it start

I just talked to a buddy of mine about the same thing and he asked me "why are you carring the batteries on board?" I couldn't answer him, I'm taking my batts out of the car and putting them on the quad (tow vehicle) My theory is if the car stalls or the engine quits your run is done anyways, you can't really just fire it back up mid track. I just had it in my head that the starting batts have to be on the car, I only use them once then they are just along for the ride (plus add lots a weight). I'm just gonna put a small batt to run the dash lights and Data logger etc. I don't know your program so this whole concept may not work but I'm gonna be pulling close to 150 lbs out of my car this winter.

    Just my opinion

Allready thought of that! 10.5 outlaw must be self starting. Plus the weight of a lithuim battery is 5-6 lbs 5 foot of cable 3 lbs my batteries and cabling is just over 80lbs, I perfer to self stat mine. Will 16 volts start a mag 44 inginition????

    Will it start

Gottcha, too bad. Damn class rules. Try and stay away from the mini starters with the the ratio's in the 4:1 reduction. They will turn the motor over but not near fast enough. What ratio is your starter now?

    16 volts will be fine

I've run my 526 Brad w/ a 44 mag for 4 years now; use an on-board turbo start 16V battery & a side mounted 12V Tilton Super Starter, and she has never failed to start.
If you run a crank trigger, you will have to start on the mag, then switch over to the crank trigger. EM makes a nice little switch for this.
For the 12V stuff, Turbo Start makes a nice 16V-to-12 volt transformer block for the small 12V requirements.

BBC 588ci 1471 @ 30% over, had a powermaster starter and 1 16 volt battery and MSD 20 MAG it started fine every time. Key is good grounds. Spin it and throw switch 1-2 seconds later.

Mine would start with a fresh charge 16 volt turbo start on the trigger, after a crank or two no go-back to the mag,

My MBR Hemi with a mag 44 starts fine at 25 deg timing, crank trigger only, with a Rock 16 volt. I use the mezerie starter and 139 tooth flywheel.
