I'm just trying to learn. Why are you switching over from 8mm to 11mm?

Were switching over to get a more life from a belt. 8mm belts don't last to long for our combo. Hopefully we can get more runs out of the 11mm/84 wide belts.

Have you tried the Star Racer 8mm belts as well?

Yes we have..we use to get the industrial Mitsuboshi belts before the star racer came out and they were great belts.we put half a season on those belts.tried the star racer and seem to have same life as the gates ps belts. So we just got the gates belts cause they were 50 bucks cheaper.

Sorry I'm asking all these questions. I haven't bought pulleys or belts yet. So this is good info

We are also having problems with 8mm belts breaking. We think it maybe a tension problem and would be interested in how tight/loose they should be.

My blower belt experience - started with 13.9MM 20 years years ago....tightened rubber band tight cold and broke the belt on our first run when the engine warmed up....went to 8MM belt and was nervous about getting them tight from previous experience...broke 3 belts in 26 runs that year from too loose and the belt jumping teeth (shoulda been very tight)
Now we use 14MM GT and get em tight after warmup - minimal deflection...no more broken belts....
I know the alky & pro-mod guys need more flexibility in overdrive so 8MM or 11MM is probably the answer, but 14 works best for me....we always run the same overdrive and carry just a few upper pulleys if we ever need to increase or slow down the blower...

Tighten up an 8mm like a bow string and it will stop breaking the belts.

With it that tight it has a very noticeable belt whine with the 11mm belt. Is that normal?also
8mm bow string tight, I ran 2 belts that tight and broke right off the hit( 4500 rpm off t-brake). 8mm were Brand new pulleys/belts/idler on first pass..
