Redline. Hand down best stuff. Doesn't seem to break down. You can use lat but the viscosity they recommend seems super thick

Call Mike Graham at Virginia Speed Race Cars at 434.374.0017. He builds the best 400 for blown hemis and they don’t fail. See what he tells you. He has a transmission Dyno and does a lot of testing. Www.virginiaspeedracecars.com

Please share the answer.... I switched from Redline to
Lucas Extreme Duty Marine ATF pure synthetic meets type F and FA.. That was two years ago. Steve Casner recommended the product ...

Would you have more info on the CAT Hydraulic fluid? Part number or?

    Thanks

Depends on your power level. High HP applications should stay away from Hydralic fluids. Most all of them have frictional modifiers in them to reduce clutch chatter. Also slips the clutches. Will burn them up.

Years ago Mike at Virginia Speed recommended the John Deere Hydraulic oil.

Lot of racers run it,....but at some point in the power level,it will burn up clutches due to the frictional modifiers. Read the specs and see if it has frictional modifiers .

If the product mentions Anti-wear or reduces clutch chatter,....it has frictional modifiers. This is Hy-Gard......
    • The exclusive Hy-Gard formula was designed for use in John Deere equipment; however, it can also be used in many non-John Deere transmission and hydraulic systems
    Features and Bennefits:

    • Performance-tested both in lab and in field, and approved by John Deere engineers to meet increased demands for performance and protection of transmissions and hydraulic oils
    • A polymeric viscosity improver helps Hy-Gard retain its proper viscosity over a wide range of operating temperatures. For Hy-Gard to work efficiently, it must flow readily through any part of the system. Oil that is too light can cause increased wear; too heavy will cause sluggish operation and lower mechanical efficiency.
    • Reduces wet-brake chatter, assures high braking capacity
    • Superior wet-clutch performance smoothes clutch operation
    • High tolerance to water contamination without sludge formation, which could cause filter clogging and hydraulic system malfunction –anti-oxidation capability allows oil to work properly at high temperatures, helping keep transmissions and hydraulic system moving parts clean
    • Provides protection against rust and corrosion, particularly during low-use periods
    • Anti-wear additives keep gear and bearing wear to a minimum – extreme pressure film in Hy-Gard helps prevent metal-to-metal contact
    • Hy-Gard oil can be used in most applications calling for 10W-30 or 5W-30 engine oil for transmission and hydraulic oils. Note: Hy-Gard should be used in all applications calling for JDM J20C

I've had very good success using Amsoil Compressor Oil. It has NO friction modifiers, has a very high flash point, and maybe best of all it has NO smell. Used it in multiple transmissions & lockup converter applications. I found no negatives and it also ran cooler temps. You can buy it in various viscosity from 10 wt to 40 wt going from memory. It's significantly less expensive if you purchase it by the 5 gallon pail than individual quart bottles.

What do you recommend for higher hp applications?

I guess it depends on what you consider "higher HP applications". I've used it in 2,800-3,000 HP applications. If you are asking what viscosity, I have only used 20 wt . Regular ATF is around 10 wt I believe. Some people use a higher viscosity to tighten up their converters a little. Again, the Amsoil Compressor Oil has no friction modifiers.

I used 20W 3000 HP and in my heavy street car I used TCI @ 2500HP in a 3568 lbs car. 150 plus runs on that and trans was like new when I pulled it apart and looked at it, Mike and Carl @ rossler was great to work with on this, 3 speed non lock up TH400
