EGT port location preference?

    I'm adding EGTs to my dragster. Is there a preference on EGT location? Short side of radius? long side of radius (aka top or bottom of zoomies)? How far from port or exh valve?

    The probes should be no closer than 1.5” from the head exhaust face or probes will fail and they should be positioned before the first bend. I have always put mine 2.5” out from the face of the exhaust port. Mounting them on top will make the EGT temperatures hotter than installing on the bottom. Either way is ok. I think they are safer hidden on the bottom.

    Thanks Mike! I like the "look" on the bottom, and also think they are safer. the heat is interesting. Tip should be centered in the pipe, correct?

    Curious about the temp difference between top and bottom. Any theory as.to why? It may change my mind where I put mine.

    One reason i have ran across is the curve of the heat coming out of the port, into the pipe, but if the sensor is in the 'middle' of the pipe, i'm baffled.

    Yes, sensor in the middle. One reason for the differential top to bottom could be the lead wires, sensor shell & harness heat saturate faster and could affect the resistance of the sensor assembly.

    We run on top (funny car). I can see where running on the bottom might be a pain and/or snag point for the bottom end guys during normal servicing.
