My sources say that A/Fuel Funny Car is being heavily discussed within NHRA. I was against the idea for a long time, but if someone can show me it can INCREASE car counts, I'm for it. Blown TAFC's switching over doesn't increase the car count. TAD's switching over technically counts, but I want to see NEW teams come into the class. Also have to consider if some teams will quit over this. Some racers came to TAFC to get away from the parity issues.

I still say make it a 5.50 class and more cars will come!

Why do you want to dumb it down? There are plenty of local index classes to run.

Would it hurt the class if it was added? I do not believe it would hurt the class, so you might as well do it.. Maybe get some teams to cross over and run both A/fuel and A/FC. And easier to promote, Imagine divisional event, Come out to see nitro Funny cars and dragsters. And my opinion is you have to love Nitro.

As a fan, try it, the only rules I don't like, involve being forced to run ONE company's product ! (or supplier) such as nitro or superchargers!

My thoughts are funny car count already sucks, so they have to do something to save it. Most of the time here in region 1 there is a short field in funny car with plenty of dragsters. If a current A/fuel team could make the jump to funny car with their current engine combo it might be worrh making the jump for them. Also if they were to align the current funny car rules more with the blown dragster rules at say the end of the 2021 season I feel like it would make things easier for folks to get interested in and compete in the class.

I also feel, and you guys may disagree with me, but NHRA should allow the blown cars two steps and auto shift if they so choose. For you old school guys that say the alcohol classes are a drivers class, ask yourself how much driving is the A/fueler in the other lane actually doing? They revving it up in the starting line and attempting to hit your shift points twice on a pass? The way things currently are in the dragster class, and I can’t speak for the funny cars, but we twist em up so high that the shift point and rev limiter are very close together. If we set it higher it’ll drop a valve and if you miss the shift slightly it’s on the limiter, which ends up costing a set of valve springs. If you bang it off the limiter and don’t put springs on it, next pass you can bet it’s going to drop a valve anyways. I just think adding a two step and autoshift might be the determining factor in a top dragster driver stepping up into the Alky ranks because it’s likely they have the budget to run but not the budget to go through the learning curve of dropping valves and changing springs every pass. The next legality conversation will be about EFI and coil on plug ignitions.

There are days you push the button early there are days you shift as it touches the chip. There are days you do both on the same run. If you can’t handle or figure that out maybe you should get an a fueler because all auto shift is going to do is get you hurt or you hurting someone in the other lane. As for dropping valves sounds like you need to evaluate your valve train components

As a A-Fuel Dragster driver i have to kinda laugh at how most people make it seam that a A-Fuel car is just so easy, the tune-up on a A-Fuel car is a lot harder to get it right from track to track & weather changes than one might think.. I think NHRA has done a good job at trying to keep the TAD class parity as close as they can, there is alot of great owners & tuners out there & some just have a better handle on it than others in my mind. I also drive a blown altered in TD & i agree that car is harder to drive straight at a 6.90 than a 5.20 in a A-Fuel dragster with the shorter wheel base & the fact that the car likes to do what it wants sometimes, but i get a lot of attention in TD with my car because it's not the same thing everyone else is running. In TAD class you can like Nitro or Blown Alky why no try it in TAFC class also I think it could turn out to be a good thing. Now being in this sport my whole 48 year life & growing up in a Funny Car i would love to see the good old style bodies being used instead of it just being a Camaro show like Pro Mod was heading for a while & why not try throwing in Altereds in the class also that might help a little also, The low car counts suck plain & simple but the real problem is the cost to run either class & pay is the big killer when it costs no less than $12,000 to run a National event & you get $5,000 to win.. Thats the real problem with low car counts..
    Just my opinion...
