    hello everybody
what size bottle is most commonly used for an air shifted 3 speed lenco and how many passes do you make with it?
application is a door car with bruno drive if that makes any difference.
    thanks a lot.

I think the 2.5 lb bottles work well. With the Bruno you would need to change it every four runs. The Bruno uses a lot because you have to keep hitting the transbrake button to put it in or out of forward or reverse gear.

thanks a lot for infos Mike!
this upcoming season being my first use of a bruno/lenco combo, can you give me a little input on the use of the transbrake?
if i get it right,i have to press the transbrake button while using the reverser lever with the car standing still?then release it to have the car move forward or reverse?
sorry for asking what seems to be a dumb question,i've only been using a 3 speed torqueflite without transbrake until now...

No problem. One thing is not to use a relay for the transbrake. It doesn’t need one and the relay will slow down you reaction time plus they are inconsistant. The car needs to be at a complete standstill before you push the button. You need to use the button like it is a clutch. Any time you move that forward reverse lever the transbrake has to be on. Make sure your neutral gate is good going in from forward and reverse so it doesn’t jump forward and hit the guy starting your motor. It can take a little getting used to going from reverse to forward so tell the guy checking your wheelie bar height not to jump too fast behind the car.

We ran a Lenco drive for the first time this year first few passes had to train driver to bring the car to a stop with brake pedal hold trans brake button then release brake pedal so if you need to bump the car to get into forward/reverse it will actually move. Had to make a couple 150ft runs out from starting line to yank his foot of the brake pedal about the 4th time he got it.

so at the finish line am i just supposed to let go off the throttle and then just use my foot/lever brake and parachute to bring the car to a complete stop then use the transbrake button and neutral the trans lever?(and shut the engine off)

You can kill the car in the shutdown and coast to a complete stop with the car off then move to neutral the reason you use the trans brake when the car is running is because sometimes the reverser gears are not lined up and you need to bump the car a little it takes a little practice nd you will probably tear up at least one reverser gear learning how to shift it we replaced one gear about two races in never had a problem after that ran 7 more races and no troubles

Use the smaller bottle and keep an eye on the pressure. Fill it when it drops off.
Agree with all others have said - before moving the shifter :- footbrake on until car stationary, transbrake on, footbrake off, try moving shifter - if it doesn't engage, bump the transbrake button, then try again - once engaged, footbrake back on before releasing transbrake then your ready to move.
We've broken a lot of reversers even using this procedure - we've got a high idle as we run the big CGC hat - so we now knock out 10 degrees of timing on a switch before moving the shifter.

If you leave the transmission engaged at the finishline and let the motor slow you down you may have to re-torque your rod bolts every two runs. Leaving the transmission engaged can cause opposite stretch on the big end of the rods. I would recommend seeing how much you can move the bolts after a couple of runs. The other option is to call Todd Tutterow and buy his modified Lenco air Solenoid system that releases the air out of the pods when you shutoff power at the finish line. It is a great piece, well engineered and well worth it.

Mike is the tutterow deal Bruno/quick/ty drive only can’t think of needing it on a Lenco drive (asking for my own car as we run a Lenco drive )

that system allows to free wheel at the finish line and shut off the engine immediately?

Don’t know about on a Lencodrive. I would assume it needs it also. Yes it allows it to free wheel st the finish line.

I have a bruno drive and I have noticed that the rod bolts loosen up a bit and I do leave the car in gear and let off the throttle at the finish line and coast to a stop and pump the lenco into neutral just before the car comes to a stop.

The idea behind that way of driving is that the engine RPM drops below the converter RPM quickly and the engine just coasted down. But looking at the data it does not happen quickly but 4-5 sec.

Morgenss, 4-5 seconds of reverse driving the engine or what I call negative torque is too long and the stress the lower cap of the rod is getting and pulling on those rod bolts. A big danger of kicking out a rod. R&R new hemi Rods with 12 mm L19 rod bolts torqued to 125 ft lbs seem to be able to handle this negative torque without loosening the bolts

But why risk it. Why not have a dump valve going they the lights to bleed off everything and let the engine come back to idle in a split second? Kicking rods out is a minimum of $10,000. If not a whole car if oil comes out and under the tires. Seems like a pretty easy thing to change?

Not all transmissions allow you to dump the air like in a Lenco. The Rossler 400 takes a little too long to get it into neutral so it that case the R&R rods would really help. If it is a Lenco then by all means dump the air out of the pods.

Lets say the we have a manually shifted lenco with the push button valves why not put a normally open solenoid (closed when powered) T'ed off the lenco pod. If the selonoid is wired to the ignition power then it opens when the ignition is killed and bleed of the pressure in the pod(s),

Yes, that would work on a manually shifted Lenco

what CO2 pressure do you run on a 3 speed CS1 lenco?
about the Bruno,is the 200 psi pressure for the transbrake a minimum or a pressure i should not go beyond?
    same question for lenco..
