Hi guys, seems to be a lot of really good info on here, I'm more of a street/strip sbc/bbc NA engine guy but now I'm building my first BBC alky blower motor. It will be used in a single engine modified puller, so I'm thinking of building this 540, going to start with a dart 4.5 bore standard deck, Callie's magnum crank, not sure on rods, possibly JE pistons, Edelbrock 377Cc victor/musi heads(61409) w/crower shaft rockers, littlefield 14-71 std helix mag blower with an Enderle bird, on alcohol, unsure on camshaft as of yet other than it will be mech roller, will be using a crowerglide clutch and running 6000-7000rpm depending on track conditions, oh and we're around 2000-2200 feet elevation most of the time. Hoping to get at least 1500hp to start and work my way up to 2000hp, I've done some searching on here but of course everyone's applications are a bit different, here's a few questions,

1-how are these victor/musi heads? Never considered them before but I found a really good deal on a set of crower rockers that fit only these heads, they do come out of the box with stainless valves, yay or nay?
2-is a bird big enough or should I be starting with a buzzard? Port injection also?
3-compression ratio, 11-12:1 good number to shoot for?
4-how fast should I be running this blower to start out?
5-at what point does a guy need to go to a magneto?
6-since I'm using the dart block maybe I should just get a 4.5 crank and jump right into a 572?

Thanks in advance, sorry if these are broken record questions to you guys.

Hi! shoot me an email and I will give you specs we used for our 540's we used on the NTPA minis we ran when they were on superchargers (since changed to twin turbos). I probably have some good parts you can use--crank, lifters, cam, mag, intake, gear drive. JW jim@snowcitymi.com

Not going to make 2000 with a std helix. If you're going to crank the std way up (60+), I would keep compression down at 11 or lower. Otherwise up towards 12 is ok. No way I would try to put a 4.5 crank in a short deck blower motor. 4.375 would be fine but Probably requires custom Pistons, not sure if it's worth it. The bird is plenty, nothing ever needed a buzzard. I have a bare bird in my way if you're looking.

Oliver heavyweight rods with the upgrade bolts. 11.25 to 12:1 comp ratio depending on heads start at 28 deg and creep up on it. It will start smashing the bearings with std head at around 116 cc volume cyl heads. we run around 40 psi with a d screw with a 93 bottom and a 45 on top with a crank rpm of 7200. We are gonna cut the impeller so it turns 78-8k rpm. we need to run 8k rpm to make 2-2300 hp. with a 540 @4.500 bore and 4.250 stroke. psi d screw @ 115 OD Hope it helps. 28-30 DEG OF Timing. 11.25:1 effective comp ratio. Every head has different needs for timing. Depending what ignition sysem you run. we use a waste spark xdi-2 ignition system it will fire whatever you need it too. 18-.019 plug gap on a 9-10 ngk series plug. See Mike canter plug reading 101. I hope this helps.

Hello we run a 540ci in top dragster its drag racing but hp is hp . Our is a 540ci Dart block Callies crank 4.250 stroke with a 4.5 bore. oliver rods get the good bolts with it upgrade to them. JE pistons. We at 11 to 1. The head to beat is Brodix BB3 380 CNC head or Pro filer head. Ours is a standard deck motor. you will have the power you will want it will make the 2k you want as well. make sure you run orings in the motor as well and inner head bolts. Also a good intake will be key as well. like indy or roy mersh. Hope this helps. Also we run a Hi-helx 14-71 dont wast your mony on a standard heilx you will regreate it
