Anyone having any issues in a PX type car with a wet sump. We are running a system 1 pump with Olson kick out pro mod pan with 14qrts in the engine oil pressure is good in the burn out drops for a second after the burn out to about 30 but the engine is only about 1500rpm there. It drops once on the chip which I don't understand as the car isn't moving. It's good in low gear about 150psi then half way through high gear drops of pretty bad its got about 50psi at 9500rpm. Then drops of in the shut down some runs have 15psi at 8k rpm.

I don't want to deal with the weight on extra parts with a dry sump I see many guys running wet sumps I assume with out issue.

The car has new pump, new XRP pro plus xtreme hose which is made for high vacuum applications.

I have heard from some that I need to be running 16 qrts but olson says 12 to 14. The pan has a double trap door and is only the latest olson builds.

Any help or advise would be great.

There is no way the oil is below this windage tray, I'm not sure why they don't make a deeper pan. I will add oil but I'm sure it will be in the crankshaft and have windage like crazy.

It will.... Until you start it. I would try 16 and then possibly more if needed. The hemi can't drain oil back fast enough.

Pretty common problem. You can try and turn pump down to 100-110 lbs of pressure. Probably only gain .5-1.0 seconds before it runs out of oil. Is your pan a double kick out or only 1 side? It is a matter of capacity. Ask Justin at Olson's to build a bigger pan.

I run the 3 quart oil accumulator and no problems with a 12 quart pan and the 3 extra in the accumulator-hope that helps! Jim in TN

Williams pan with custom sump and no kickout. 12 qts Redline 60wt.standard restrictors in block. RCD/PandP pump. 125 psi max pressure. I think little things matter and adding tons of oil is not the best solution.

I drive the car he's talking about here. It will lose oil pressure after the burnout. When we first put the Hemi in it would dive all the way to zero after the burnout. I started stopping slower and now it will fall to 20-30 before coming back up. I would guess if we put a 3 qt. accumulator back on like we ran on the Chevy it wouldn't do the post burnout dive, at least not as low. At this point I have the attitude more of watching the bearings and as long as they look good, the short dives in pressure probably are not an issue.

What happens is the oil gets pump to the top of the motor and it can't get back to the pick up. I would advise turning the bypass almost all the way out, about as far as it can go and still have some thread engagement. I would also advise adding at least 2 quarts. As mentioned, it will be below the windage tray as soon as you fire it up.

Assuming you are running a Lenco or B&J, are you dumping air in the shutdown to downshift the trans? This allows it to over run the sprag and not drag the motor down. Decel can be hard on the lower rod bearings, especially if there is a lack of oil supply/pressure.

I agree that more oil is better....when I was researching running a wet sump system (didn't wanna hafta drain oil from the pan and the dry sump tank after each run)...I talked with System One....they said to use the smaller gear pump (I think it was 1.800" gear length compared to the 2.100" gear for Top Fuel) so that it would not pump the pan dry....they said there is always a quart in each head....two in the valley....one in the filter...one in the block passages and hoses....etc...so we run 15 quarts in a wet sump and do not push any out the breathers into the puke tank...it's all in the motor....

Remember that the blow by past the rings is trying to pressurize the crankcase and also keeps the oil from draining back to the pan...

Try 16 quarts....bearings should look better..

why not just put a dry sump system on it.. the little extra weight of the tank and lines is worth not having to worry about an oil pressure issue.. . . the weight of a pleuger or system 1 pump is no different that the weight of your wet sump pump and you are already running around 14 qts of oil so that weight is no different. a simple tank and two lines can't add 5 pounds...

I run a TFX block with a TF KB pump and a wet sump funny car oil pan. I put 16 - 17 liters of oil in the engine and never had any issues regarding this

    hi All!
i have a little question regarding the accumulator, filter and lines setup with a wetsump system:
is running a system one inline oil filter between the pickup in the pan and the pump(all 16 AN,P&P pump)and plumbing the accumulator to a loop on the other side of the pump(12 AN in and out) a good idea?

You are running out of oil ....there is no oil return while running .....8 quarts in right hand valve cover after the burnout ....run time is probably quite long .....more than 90 secs....put 18 - 20 quarts in ......go racing .....don't worry about pan size .....that means nothing .....
